Recognizing standards and meeting them are too different for Teddy.

Well, the rubber will meet the road when Stevens or Ginsberg go. That would have been Roberts was most needed. Actually, if even Gonzales were nominated then, to replace the uberlibs Stevens or Ginsberg, almost no one would complain with that trade. Roberts is needed to swing a "conservative seat" just a bit more conservative.

That is the one that needs to be "like a Rehnquist" because if not, and it's like an O'Connor, we didn't gain squat... : )The next one will be a rock ribbed conservative (either a woman or hispanic). I tend to think it will be a woman, and then he can nominate Gonzales to replace Stevens or Ginsberg. One or the other will be leaving the court in the next 2 1/2 years. By that time there will be a solid constructionist majority and even the base won't object to Gonzales.

Ignore the DUmmies----they were all leaving for Canada last November but damned few of them did, unfortunately.

I see you saw McCain and his wife on the cover of Architectural Digest. That was what greeted me when I was getting my hair cut last week. Pretty gaggy article.

Philip Freneau was the Editor of the National Gazette, a newspaper owned by Jefferson and Madison. He was a true, anti-big-government conservative.

7 of the 9 Supreme Court justices were appointed by Republicans. 3 of them are acceptable, which shows you how incompetent Republicans are at choosing judges

Brilliant lawyers at the top, tend to be rather well paid. Roberts was in private practice for about 12 years, up until 2003. In the latter years, he probably made in excess of One Million per year. Today it would be close to Two Million. Roberts took a huge pay cut when he went to the DC circuit.
