TICK TOCK...............
I would love to see it also. Justice Estrada would be great, but he has a family and the SC would be a pay cut.
That is the key - she has a track record and a rep. amongst those who know her as being very good. I'm equally apprehensive for the same reasons you suggest (and past experience) but I also trust Bush in his picks because the nominees he's put forth to date have all - with rare exception - been top notch.
What I'm looking for is a comparison of her record alongside that of E. Jones as they serve on the same body
Again the voice of sanity! Everyone listen to Congressman Billybob and calm down.
Thank you for your rational explanation of her remarks. It's something that we don't see much of, around here on this subject.
The problem is, we can't know that unless she is appointed. At that point, it will be too late if she isn't a Scalia-like originalist. That really isn't good enough.
She (Edith Clement) has been strongly supported by Mary Landrieu, who is on Emily's list.
Garza and others are a safe choice for conservatives.
One freeper probably nailed it when it was said that her looks (Edith Clement) is the major factor on this one. Get the media to focus on her face rather than on Karl Rove.
Edith Clement has come out and said she is in favor of privacy and claims that is in the Constitution.
Privacy is a nice way of saying abortion should be legal because it is a private matter.
I am doing a 180 on Bush because it sounds like he is going to betray Christians, Pro-Lifers and conservatives.
I'm not sure what bible your reading from for Jesus many times was very upset with the hardness of heart he experienced with the rulers of the day. Jesus spoke in may parables (or hypotheticals). The ruling leaders didn't "feel" the love of Christ, that is why the sought to kill him. Truth did not hide behind words to placate and please. Truth came to reveal to men what they really were. Those willing to be chastised by God and repent did not feel demeaned, but uplifted, and directed by Gods love (although stern) to a new direction and set upon a new path.
You ask so I answer. Have we come to a place where we put anything before God? Has our hearts become so hardened that even if one comes and chastises in Christs name we fail to recognize it?
I'm reminded of arguments the Pharisees offered Christ each time He healed on the Sabbath. Even when people suffered for nearly 4 decades with debilitating diseases that the Pharisees could not even begin to cure, they blamed Christ for healing them because it crossed one iota of the Mosaic tradition. Have we creation of tradition of placation at the expense of millions and millions of babies? I pray not.
But for those that hide behind the tradition at the expense of life, mercy, and love, were called far worse, by Christ, than any words I've used. Whitewashed tombs full of dead mens bones, hypocrites, brood of vipers...are we feeling the love yet? Lets not be afraid to demonstrate both the love and judgment of Christ. Otherwise we lose our salt, and fail to let our light shine.
Just like the hungry, we will always have the lost with us (for even Judas among the twelve remained lost regardless of how close physically he was to Christ). But His sheep will recognize His voice, even when it is stern as often as it is, even when it chastises, and they will respond and will not be lost.

I thought that the pick would be (and surely will be later) Gonzales. I FEAR that Clement will vote on the court just like Gonzales would have. But Edith Jones would be a solid conservative choice that would arouse fierce Democrat opposition. I look for the Democrats to defer on Clement, with a couple of dozen exceptions. Same as it would have been with Gonzales, who is sure to come!
she's not doing anything..it's the media speculating..she's not answering her phone..one point...we often forget..there may well be several very qualified candidates who don't want, for whatever reaosn, to subject themselves and their family to the inquisition that will occur. How would you feel if the tomorrow morning abotu 5000 lawyers and media were going through every bit of your family history. Many Clement was Bush's first chice..but there were a few things in her past she wanted private..so she'd be happy, overjoyed.. to assist in a disinformation campaign against the media..
Statism will eventually impoverish us all. How many millions of people have died because of over regulation. I live in Canada. People die here every day because they can't get life saving surgeries. Nobody is saying that unborn children aren't important. They're just saying that A) abortion can't be dealt with overnight B) there are alot of other issues that are important. Would you rather have a child born into miserable poverty because of the Kyoto Protocol etc....Would you rather elect by default politicians that don't want any restrictions on abortion.....Would you like to work in a prison camp for the government.....
you make an exceptional point which is one that I - as a huge Janice Rogers Brown supporter - remain quite keen on
Could, maybe, what if.....
Isn't it just a little bit of a possibility that Bush knows where she personally stands on this important issue?
The dims are the one focus party. Whatever else they believe in, the right to kill babies is the top priority. If all that she has publically stated on abortion is what we've read, then that takes it off the table as far as their attacks about it.
Dude, your like so wrong man!.
Well, if Landrieu is for Clement, you can be sure that Clement, like her fellow Catholic Landrieu, supports a "right" to abortion.
So Ted Kennedy and John Kerry would be good picks (Catholic).
And it is my understanding that to be selected by a Republicans, anyone can join the Federalist Society.
Remember that George H. W. Bush selected Justice Souter.
"she's not doing anything..it's the media speculating.."
She got on a plane to Washington this a.m. That's something.
I know what you mean but Allen, Sessions, Santorum and Burr give me great hope, that the girly thing is coming to an end. We need more "DeLay's" in the Senate.
