This is just so over-the-top. Are you choosing to ignore the opinions of many well-respected FReepers here?

She (Edith Clement) has been strongly supported by Mary Landrieu, who is on Emily's list.

Garza and others are a safe choice for conservatives.

One freeper probably nailed it when it was said that her looks (Edith Clement) is the major factor on this one. Get the media to focus on her face rather than on Karl Rove.

Edith Clement has come out and said she is in favor of privacy and claims that is in the Constitution.

Privacy is a nice way of saying abortion should be legal because it is a private matter.

I am doing a 180 on Bush because it sounds like he is going to betray Christians, Pro-Lifers and conservatives.

Well, if Landrieu is for Clement, you can be sure that Clement, like her fellow Catholic Landrieu, supports a "right" to abortion.

If that's true, this is a bigger outrage than Alberto Gonzales being nominated.

"She (Edith Clement) has been strongly supported by Mary Landrieu, who is on Emily's list."

Please. Do you think that there is anyone you disagree with that has supported President Bush? How about Arlen Specter? Does that disqualify the President for you? Talk about guilt by association. Besides, I suspect that Ms. Clement probably needed the support of at least one of her home state senators, who were both dems, to be put on the federal bench.

"Edith Clement has come out and said she is in favor of privacy and claims that is in the Constitution. Privacy is a nice way of saying abortion should be legal because it is a private matter."

Well, we're all in favor of privacy and I hope she does to. What she actually said was that she recognizes that the Supreme Court has defined a right to privacy. As a lower court judge she should say that because it's true. By the way, I believe there is a right to privacy, which is part of the ninth amendment. I just don't believe it should apply to abortion. There is no basis to believe that Judge Clement would not vote to return to a more original understanding on this issue, i.e. vote to restrict or even overturn Roe

I'm sorry, I hadn't noticed your tagline before. I don't think I'll be discussing this anymore with you.

I digress
I saw Landrieu's interview on Fox News Sunday, and it struck me that Landrieu is trying to play both sides of this issue.

Clement is from HER state, and if Clements appears as a moderate, then Landrieu can pull off straddling the issue.

Clements privacy comment was as a Circuit Court judge, not as a SCOTUS judge - where she would be free to overturn Griswold.
