TICK TOCK...............
In that case, this is going to be a looooooong thread.
Is Clement straight?
I'm listening to Rush on my radio headphones, but I'm leaving my laptop now and going to get some sun.
This is making me too nervous. We've been disappointed so many times before.
Rush is laying it on the line re OLD media. Thsy can't do it to us anymore.
It looks like Edith Clem-ENT's black&white photo has been retouched, doesn't it!
How about noiminating someone that has chance of remaining on the Court for twenty or thirty years. Cheney has already used most of his "nine lives". Hell the man has had four heart attacks. Give him a break.
Some reassuring news from today's press conference:
"I do have an obligation to think about people from different backgrounds that have shared the same philosophy, people who will not legislate from the bench," Bush said."
He has started to pick up that chord again and dropped the "mainstream" language.
better be diane sykes
He shifted the wi supreme court from conservative to liberal by taking her. If she's just wasted on a normal judgeship it will be stupid.
Yeah, serious neck-sagging issues in the pic with W.
By this President? On his court appointees?
I think the charge that President Bush is rushing an announcement because of the attempted media assassination of Rove is completely silly, just the usual Dem/media spin to try and get some slander out of completely unrelated events.
Ditto. My favorite by far.
She's been the ace of the Red Sox staff this year.
She really is.
If it was any other topic .. I might agree with you
But this is a USSC Nominee pick .. he has to pick one eventually .. regardless of what is in the news
Isnt sanity a prerequisite for the court?
The GOP track record on Supreme Court justices is pretty miserable for a supposedly conservative party. Here are all the GOP appointees since Eisenhower:
JUSTICE WARREN: A flaming left-winger.
JUSTICE WHITTAKER: Didn't serve long. Generally a "don't rock the boat" type.
JUSTICE HARLAN: Pretty good on criminal law, but fully concurred with the cultural leftist block on the court.
JUSTICE BRENNAN; A flaming left-winger.
JUSTICE STEWART: Left-wing about 65% of the time.
JUSTICE REHNQUIST: A very good judge.
JUSTICE POWELL: Lest-wing about 60% of the time.
JUSTICE BLACKMUN: A flaming left-winger.
JUSTICE BURGER: Tough on crime, wishy-washy on other things.
JUSTICE STEVENS: A flaming left-winger.
JUSTICE O'CONNOR: Wishy-washy, growing increasingly leftist as the years passed.
JUSTICE SCALIA: EXCELLENT!!!!
JUSTICE KENNEDY: Wishy-washy. Can be good sometimes, but also panders to the left on key issues (upheld Roe; found an imaginary sodomy right)
JUSTICE THOMAS: EXCELLENT!!!!
JUSTICE SOUTER: A flaming left-winger.
So given this overall poor record, it's easy to see why the GOP base worries when we get a stealth nominee. Only three truly good judges have been appointed by Republicans in the past 50 years, and those three had very well established credentials as constitutionalists beforehand. The ones with little or no track record have ranged from wishy-washy to horrible,
The media are the ones speculating on this. They obviously think that their non story on Rove is in danger of being replaced by some real news.
I honestly doubt that George Bush gives a flip about the wild rantings of the media......they, the press, will keep the Rove hysteria going til Fitzgerald is finished. That might be 3 months from now!
the whole "mainstream" stuff was just ear candy for the press and average American who doesn't follow things very closely - I don't know why so many on FR and elsewhere couldn't see through that.
