breaking, more to come
Come on, you knew the DUmmies would be throwing a party over this news. They are so predictable.
We didn't lose, the Vietnamese now make our Nikes for cheap. So it looks like we did win after all. Since the bigger fish, the Soviet Union fell, thanks in part to our efforts in Vietnam, we really did win after all. Now the Vietnamese people didn't win, but their day is coming.
Needless to say my good man, thanks for the link.
Sir, you responded in a way those of us who were at home could never do. The emotion behind your words jumped out of my computer.
Thank you. I thank each and everyone of you.
Know your enemy.
LOL! It's that camel Lot(Camelot) carpet stuff, it's slicker than teflon.
We lost in Bosnia by siding with one group bent on genocide over another group that had responded with genocide. Sort of like when the ref in a football game flags the guy that threw the second punch. Both parties were guilty. We sided with the Moslems, forcing those of other descent and faith out of the area.
Your post brought tears to my eyes.
Thank you.
I suppose Somalia is a loss because we didn't dispose of the warlords. I don't see how Bosnia was a loss. Wasn't our role one of overseer. That's not really a win-loss situation. Although a win can be characterized as not letting things get worse on your watch. Korea depends on whether you believe our goal was a free Korean Peninsula or a free South Korea.
All in all, as was said by a previous poster, you can't expect to win if you let the politicians fight the wars.
BTTT
RIP General Westmoreland. Thank you for your honorable service to this great Republic
Amen brother:
"I hope he wrote it all down. The whole story of Vietnam from the commander. When the last of the hippies and commmie MSM psudo-journalists are gone perhaps then my kids can read the truth about the war. As told by the men who fought the battles and lived out the the 4,856 days that were Vietnam!"
Westmoreland died of natural causes at Bishop Gadsden retirement home, where he had lived with his wife for several years, said his son, James Ripley Westmoreland.
The silver-haired, jut-jawed officer, who rose through the ranks quickly in Europe during World War II and later became superintendent of West Point, contended the United States did not lose the conflict in Southeast Asia.
Gen. William Westmoreland
W.Westmoreland Born 1914.
Graduated West Point 1936
Served with distinction in WWII
Superintendent West Point in 1960
Commander US Military Assistance Command, Vietnam
(COMUSMACV) 1964-1968.
General Westmoreland took command in Vietnam in June 1964 replacing Gen. Paul Harkins. He was instrumental in raising the level of US forces deployed in Vietnam and in developing the strategies implemented in the region. Westmoreland continuously requested for an increase in manpower in Vietnam and President Johnson, who had his own troubles at home, refused to send more troops and finally recalled Westmoreland after he successfully stopped the North Vietnamese Tet Offensive in 1968. He was replaced by General Creighton W. Abrams
Upon his return to the US, Westmoreland was appointed as Chief of Staff of the US Army. His biggest challenge was to withdraw the troops from Vietnam and ready them for duty in other regions of the world. He was successful in restructuring the Army at a difficult time, but his tactics in Vietnam had become unpopular with some groups in the US. He maintained for many years that the policy in Vietnam had been the right one. General Westmoreland retired in 1972.
Thank you sir. Whenever some American liberal starts on about the Nam war as a waste, I tell them to ask a sane Aussie if it was a waste. Your words are excellent.
"56,000 dead. For nothing.
No sir. Not for nothing.
I'm an Australian - take a look at a map and realise that for Australians, the domino theory wasn't just something we worried about in the context of a larger cold war, important though that was.
We were the end of the domino. If South East Asia fell, then eventually we would fall as well.
The United States helped to save us from that fate during World War II, when the war in south east Asia did come to our doorstep.
In Vietnam, once again, the United States helped to save us from that fate - it was just done a little earlier that time.
The Vietnam War convinced the enemies of democracy and freedom that free people were still willing to pay any price to preserve that freedom.
Men like my father knew what they were fighting for - and many of us still know what they died for."
Thanks for the ping!
"How about: No more Soviet Union and East Germany. No more Warsaw Pact. Daniel Ortega and his pretty red scarf are not running the show anymore in Nicaragua. What is Fidel up to these days? The 10+ year holding-action in Southeast Asia contributed to all of this. Vietnam can be analogized to the Battle of Bunker Hill. We did not hold the field at the end of that day in 1775, but we extracted a price in blood that the enemy, Communism, was unwilling to keep paying and it postured us for a larger victory. That is a legacy to be proud of."
Our strength in Nam via our wonderful military was the beginning of the end of the expansion of Communism via its rogue states like N Viet Nam, Cuba and the PRC. Ronald Reagan and Maggie Thatcher continued to cut off the expansion legs and financial legs of the USSR.
Our overwhelming victory over Iraq in Desert Storm showed that even a well trained and supplied USSR puppet state like Iraq had no way of winning against us. That was the final nail in the coffin of the USSR. Their best military equipment, training and resources got its A$$ pounded in Desert Storm one.
The military leadership for our victory came from our service men in Nam.
Thanks for your excellent historical summary.
Thanks to General Westmoreland and all who served in Nam on the ground, over it in the air and around it in the sea.
It was a job well done inspite of what the America hating MSM mediots and Demonic Rats said or will say.
