The Plot Thickens – Matthew Cooper lied.

Posted on 07/17/2005 9:50:46 AM PDT by Pukin Dog

If you did not see Matthew Coopers performance this morning on Meet the Press, you should have, because it gave away the plot for the attack on Karl Rove.

Cooper flat-out lied when he told Tim Russert that he first heard the identity of Joe Wilson’s wife from Rove. Rove never mentioned the woman’s name, only that Wilson’s wife worked for the CIA. He never said who that woman was.

Cooper, clearly under orders to keep the fake-scandal alive, told that whopper to Tim Russert, because without it, the story would die a quick death.

Remember what is going on here.

This is not about Rove, it is about the Supreme Court. The goal is not to just ‘get Rove’ as some are saying, but to create an environment where the Democrats can garner enough public opinion to begin arguing that George Bush should not be allowed to set the direction of the Supreme Court while under this cloud of suspicion.

The Democrats are working toward connecting the fake Rove Scandal to Bush, which can only happen after Karl Rove’s security clearance is revoked. If that happens, the Democrats can then accuse Rove of nefarious activities which he will not be able to defend against without the ability to either access or reference classified material. The Democrats want Rove’s clearance so that he can be framed.

So what you saw today, was the husband of one of Hillary Clinton’s main lieutenants lying on television to keep a dying story alive. Matthew Cooper is without credibility and should not be trusted.

Before anyone asks me, none of the above is the product of my personal opinion.

Could minor Ambassador Joe Wilson himself have been the source in blowing his own Wife's cover?

It is distinctly possible, (though it may be unlikely that Joe Wilson himself directly was NY Times Judith Miller's source), since Joe Wilson himself evidently routinely bragged openly to strangers about her CIA employment, prior to such "cover" being "blown" in the press.

Here's an example of Joe's apparently routine and open bragging about Valerie being a "CIA agent," which became known directly to me over a year ago:

He certainly bragged about it per a famous and highly reliable source's (named below) account of his own face-to-face encounter with Amb. Joe Wilson prior to Valerie Plame's "outing" as a CIA agent/employee.

Based upon a personal conversation (we were in a small group eating; it was NOT an "off the record") I had with eminent historian Victor Davis Hanson (we were at a luncheon table together during a trip to Europe), it appeared entirely possible that Joe Wilson himself was the (or one source, if not the original one) possible source in revealing his own wife's status as a CIA agent or employee.

Victor Davis Hanson (Wilson presumably knew Victor Davis Hanson wrote regularly for NRO (National Review Online), had done OpEds for the Wall street Journal, and other publications, and had his own Website with a widespread following) said he (VDH) & Joe Wilson were both in the same "Green Room" before a televised debate-discussion on Iraq, etc. and Joe first warned the TV make-up person not to get powder on his $14,000 Rolex watch, then he bragged to Victor about several things (possessions and trips to Aspen, etc.), like his expensive car (I think it was a Mercedes), and then bragged about his beautiful wife who, Joe Wilson said (braggingly) was a CIA operative.

I asked Victor Davis Hanson Why he didn't write up this account.(?) He replied that Joe Wilson would probably simply deny it, since only he (VDH) & Joe Wilson were in the Green Room together before the broadcast.

However, it is now easy to surmise that Joe Wilson is a crass, materialistic, self-promoting, vain, egotistical, bragaddocio-opportunist, so this account is perfectly consistent with Valerie Plame's TWO photo shoots in Vanity Fair. (Or was it Vogue? No, probably too crass for Vogue, n'est pas?)

"Losing Rove would not prevent Bush from reshaping the Supreme Court. Nothing would short of impeachment. Therefore, you know the goal here. There is nothing more important to the Libs than the Supreme Court. The day after Bush was reelected, the Democrats started planning for his impeachment."

I can't argue with you on this, PD. The hue and cry has always been that W was appointed not elected in 2000 and in Ohio the 2004 win was tainted. The Liberals losing 'control' of SCOTUS could result in enormous financial loss to the abortion mills, a major financier of the Left---it would help state prosecution of death penalties, which would hurt the prison-construction/prison guard union vote pork barrels---roll back the international law/Marxist/UN rubbish---and much more.

Part of this attempt to lynch Karl electronically with no proof of any crime is two fold:

1. They hate Rove as he has guided GW to two victories and help amass gains in the house and senate.

2. Part of this is pay back for Karl's remarks about their behavior after 9/11 to now re the Jihadists here and abroad.

Agreed they hate Rove but like PD says, this is about the BIG picture and Rove--and Bush--are in their way. Thank GOD!

No, all the ones I know are pissed at Wilson and his wife. . .you see the the spouse of a US Ambassador carries responsibilities and privileges not normally granted to persons employed in our embassies. Our Ambassadors represent our country and in particular our President. Ambassadors are empowered to operate at high levels of international relations and expected to function as such without parochial and ulterior interests. Although each embassy including those situated in the US does contain intelligence gathering persons, they are a recognized entity. With that said it is completely inappropriate and dare say, in violation of international law to place a CIA agent in the living quarters of US ambassador. I trust that we (US) will objectively review our sense of international proprietary and violations law and make appropriate adjustments to the assignment of agents in our embassies.

I've tried to keep up with all the Plame threads but that is impossible. If no one has said this yet, I nominate you for the "Quidam of Plamegate" (long-time Freepers will know what that signifies!).

Some good analysis, PD. And congrats. BCrago66 has slithered out of his hiding place again to bother you this time.

Besides the Supreme Court, they are trying to set up the 2006 election because they have no viable issue on which to run. And, of course, with the lovely Mandy Grunwald involved, this is also about Hillary.

On post 24 of this linked thread, BCrago66 claims he is not generally hostile. This clown is always hostile. He apparently is in charge of the vanity police. Maybe he got that job because of his wife, Valerie.
THIS SHOWS THAT BCrago66 IS NOT GENERALLY HOSTILE.....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

"This is not about Rove, it is about the Supreme Court."

That's incorrect. Cooper and Novak and Wilson and Miller and Corn, among others, got this whole thing going in 2003, prior to a Presidential Election, after a War that they disapproved.

Rove is only a temporary player in this drama, and only *again* now (as with 2004) because the Left's ploy is on the verge of backfiring upon them (hence: they are desperate and they are lashing out).

Miller is now in jail. Cooper has twice avoided, narrowly, being jailed. Corn wasn't called to the Grand Jury, for two reasons: #1, he identified his Source for Plame's name and career as coming from Wilson...and #2 because the Grand Jury is chasing down something *different* than what the press keeps telling you that the Grand Jury is after.

Novak cooperated with the Grand Jury. Has Cooper lied and is Cooper lying? Yes. We know that from Novak, Rove, and by Miller going to jail to remain silent.

The mad dog News Corps, caught with a Man's arm in its clutches, is however screaming "look over at those *other* animals, they bit him, not me."

Burp.

"Marvin Kalb pulled "possible obstruction of justice" out of his tush on Fox today. Watergate is a template universal to the MSM. Like an old Prom queen & her husband, the quarterback of the HS football team, they keep trying to relive their glory days."

I'm so glad that you mentioned the Kalb interview on Fox. I saw it, and was thinking that if it had been Dan Rather, the same unconscionable drivel would have come out of his mouth.

Kalb kept emphasizing "the seriousness of the charges." Rush has exposed this Democrat liberal media trick for a couple of years. They try to sway public opinion by constantly repeating that phrase, "the seriousness of the charges!" The fact that the charges aren't true doesn't enter into it. Like the Clintons did (and still do) so effectively, they rely upon the lack of focus and ignorance of the general public.

I put Marvin Kalb in the same box with Rather.

Marvin Kalb - I saw him today, too- he is looking befuddled, actually had some of the facts wrong...

he should step back and hold his nose on this one.

Even Bob Beckel had the good sense to state that the Rove thing was off base for the dems, and they should drop it.

So, in addition to the $765,000 house, twins, two cars (one being a Mercedes, we find),start-up expenses for a business, remodelling his kitchen, attending lots of fancy cocktail parties and state dinners, and one child in college, he also owns a Rollex watch.

WHERE DID HE GET THE MONEY????

Back when Wilson first appeared, I asked this question. Plame makes probably around $70K. Before retiring, Wilson probably made $100K. He has two previous marriages and probably child support and maybe even alimony.

I highly doubt he comes from money. He went to USB--which is a state school, and was practically free when he attended. (And it is definitely a joke of a school--or was then.)

He became a Foreign Service dweeb--and worked his way up to the middle. Not usually the career path of somebody from a family with $$.

There is no evidence of his post retirement ventures ever existing, except at most on paper. It's unlikely they made money. So it's a very fair question.

If he were a Republican, the media would be asking this 24/7.

While doing a google to make sure I had the name & spelling right, came across his take on the "media's feeding frenzy over Clinton-Lewinsky"...

http://www.jdlasica.com/interviews/kalb.html

Yep, clearly shares Rather's litter box. I only had a half an ear to the interview, so missed "the seriousness of the charges!" business. I'm getting one of those, déjà vu all over again kinda feelings here. I have this strong desire to go camping at Chrystal Lake, just outta Woodruff & to rediscover Slo Gin Fizzes. Other people have a memory of what they were doing when the found out JFK was shot, but I don't & instead have the summer of Watergate.
