Doctor Files Lawsuit Against Don Imus

NEW YORK -- A doctor who once cared for sick children at Don Imus' New Mexico ranch has sued the tart-tongued radio personality for slander, claiming he made false derogatory comments about him on his "Imus in the Morning" show.

Dr. Howard Allen Pearson says in court papers that on at least four days last year, Imus said Pearson "was one of the worst doctors in the world and did not care if children suffered."

Pearson's lawsuit says Imus apparently misunderstood the physician's response to a morning call to treat a child for pain in July 2004.

Pearson left the main house and began a quarter-mile walk to the infirmary. Because the nurse had said there was no emergency, Pearson declined a ride offered by Imus' wife, court papers say.

The doctor says he gave the child pain medicine, and she resumed normal activities. About 45 minutes later, Imus, armed with a gun and a knife, pulled up in his truck, jumped out and began yelling and cursing at Pearson, the papers say.

If Deidre was born in 1979 and they married in 1994, she would have been 15 at the time.

I don't know much about Imus & this ranch story, but my first thought is of Neverland and the supposed misdeeds that occurred there. For his sake, I hope Imus doesnt put himself in a position to blackmailed by a money-hungry family of one of these children.

"..Pearson left the main house and began a quarter-mile walk to the infirmary.

A quarter mile? About 5 minutes, or the walk from the parking lot to most hospitals.

Imas is a major league A-hole. I hope he loses his ass.

Imus does good work with his ranch; plus the most entertaing morning show going

I'd guess soothing a guilty conscience while sheltering his income. Such a deal!

The guy is a jerk.

All right, please tell me how that was uninformed? Read the article.

"about 45 minutes later, Imus, armed with a gun and a knife, pulled up in his truck jumped out and began yelling..."

If this is an accurate and true account of what happened, I reiterate my original statement. "Imus is a moron." Or do you contend that he is actually a rancher who would have needed a gun and a knife. I am not saying that only a moron would have such things, heck I have guns and knives myself and I am a city slicker. I am saying that this moron (Imus) shouldn't have them in this set of circumstances. If he is so out of control that he jumps out of his truck (yes, I have a truck also), yelling and cursing without even giving the doctor the opportunity to explain the circumstances then I further suggest that this moron (Imus, once again) should be disarmed. He is dangerous.

That he finds it necessary to be armed in his NYC studio is a further example of his instability. If he walked the streets of Manhattan alone after midnight I could understand it, maybe even advise it, but to be armed in the studio is nothing more than silly macho bravado. He is a moron who's 15 minutes of fame was up 15 minutes after it started.

Nice talkin to ya.

Any idea where to find that study. Might be fun to give to a vegan buddy of mine. Otherwise he's a great guy, but he refuses to eat meat. Sick, just sick.

Broccoli would be pretty good if it was made of beef and covered with gravy

I reacted to how you worded your post. It's not my fault that you worded it that way. Argue that he's a hothead... I won't disagree. :~D

Been a while since seeing the I Man but know that he can be pretty "vicious" at times. While I like him, the drugs still haunt his thinking, after all these years........

LOL ok, ok, I can't help it that you read it wrong! Only kidding. :-) Besides we agree that he is a hothead. I can only imagine how that doctor felt seeing him armed that way and very angry. It would give me pause.

Many years ago, I remember reading how Imus was riding in his Limo (which I don't have), when a squeegee guy approached the car and wanted to wash the windows. Imus rolled the window down and stuck his gun in the guy's face. Why? His Limo driver only had to drive away. Imus claimed that the man was attempting to rob him. Lame excuse. The man was not armed. Imus is gun happy. He does not use weapons responsibly and is going to hurt someone some day. I'm glad this doctor wasn't the first.

I really do mean this, HairOfThe Dog, have a great night.

One last thing (and I will finally let you go), great pictures on your home page. Great horses for a great looking couple. My dad was an avid rider. He played polo for the US Army team way back in the 30's. He rode English saddle as if he was born to it. Something I couldn't ever get comfortable with, I guess it just wasn't in the genes.

I especially appreciate the pictures of our great military. How proud we are of each and everyone of them. God bless them all.

P.S. Having a much loved German Shepherd I liked them too.

"What a jerk. Gun toting narcissist when no one is a threat to him, on his own ranch."

Now, that is a dumb@$$, presumptive, liberal, gun-hating city-dweller statement if I ever read one!

Imus, armed with a gun and a knife, pulled up in his truck,

You obviously know nothing about the toolkit of a rancher or timberland owner.

Sounds just like me, when I'm out on my place, which harbors lots of timber rattlesnakes and copperheads in the underbrush. My sidearm is the tool of choice for the varmints, and my (full-sized) Bowie knife serves as a machete if need be. So keep your hippie opinions on such matters to yourself -- until you are much farther along the road to recovery!

A simple explanation would have sufficed. The description of the story intimated that the gun and knife were a part of his angry drive to make a point to the doctor. Whether or not he was carrying the gun "as usual" on a ranch has been mentioned by other posters as possible explanation. It is Imus'personality and his rage which appeared to be out of proportion here that was of concern carrying weapons.

Your reaction ws even more of an intense reaction than was merited. I am very pro-gun and conservative..so don't make ASSumptions. City dwellers have our own "rattlesnakes". And as for "ranches' come to any big city and you will think you are in the wild west. we nickname our ER's "the knife and gun club".

I stand by my comment...especially considering Imus personality and also that I doubt the drive to and from the infirmary is as wild as other parts of the ranch..especially with kids out there.
