BLAST AT CITY TUBE STATION - FOUR BOMB EXPLOSIONS AROUND LONDON
Sky News ^ | July 7, 2005

Posted on 07/07/2005 1:45:13 AM PDT by RWR8189

There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.

There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.

The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.

A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."

British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

I had a suspicion she was posting about Chief. The question was already answered later in the thread. The fire report was on FR and there was no evidence of arson.

The real story of Coventry is that the Brits knew the raid was coming...they had broken the German code machine Enigma and were reading German HQ dispatches almost in real time. The RAF could probably have stopped the raid , but Churchill was afraid that a sudden change in the disposition of Brit fighters would have led the Nazis to think their codes had been compromised..so he didn't pass the news on..as a result..Coventry got clobbered.

That's the sort of hard decision one has to make in an intelligence war I suspect. The UK security services understand the value of good intelligence and hence let these guys run around shooting their mouths off in public.

It's not worth trading good human intelligence for short-term political points.

Very few of them are Islamists. The Islamists hate Muslims that don't believe the way they do. They're our allies in this fight.

It's well past time they started acting like it, then...

I guess I'll have to respectfully disagree that you were bombed because you are in Iraq.

You were bombed because you are strong and free, and represent everything the terrorists hate. Terrorism preceded Iraq and it will continue after Iraq is under control. It's not the cause of this murderous attack.

That's just my humble opinion.

>>. . .morons might actually think that a city that went thru the Blitz and the IRA campaign will EVER be defeated by a bunch of goat farmers.<<

Point of order. . .that would be "defeated by a bunch of goat f**kers"

Thought we should clear that up so there is no misunderstanding nor insult to goat farmers that don't molest their goats.

Many of the rats don't stand by their country so I do not consider them patriots.

They aren't. In fact, many of them (like Dick Durbin) are traitors.

UN Resolution:

"REAFFIRMING the need to combat by all means, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts,

1. CONDEMNS without reservation the terrorist attacks in London on 7 July 2005, and regards any act of terrorism as a threat to peace and security;

2. EXPRESSES its deepest sympathy and condolences to the victims of these terrorist attacks and their families, and to the people and government of the United Kingdom;

3. URGES all states, in accordance with their obligations under resolution 1373 (2001), to cooperate actively in efforts to find and bring to justice the perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of these barbaric acts;

4. EXPRESSES its utmost determination to combat terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations. "

Here it is. Are you going to sleep better because of this pile?

Well, I think it's pretty clear that Iraq singled us out as a target. Nobody here was in any real doubt this was coming.

I think our emergency services, who have been practicing for this sort of thing, did very well. I also think the people of London showed splendid sang-froid and quiet defiance of intimidation.

Has me convinced that all will be well. . .I mean, really, next they might actually threaten to use a strongly worded demarche! That'll teach'em!

Wondering, is this the same text for the resolution about 9-11? Would be an interesting comparison.

"I expect by tomorrow or Sat., the threads and comments will be allowed to stay.:

And I expect you're right! Good of you to check out the DU. I don't have the stomach for it today.

I realize the rat's favorite refrain is, "it's Bush's fault!" Simply hadn't occurred to me that they'd apply it to today's tragedies in London. My brain must have been in a heat warp. Sorry.

I'm constantly floored by their willingness to make abject fools out of themselves. Proud to say I loathed Clinton from day one and things went downhill from there. Even at that, I didn't blame him for the verdict in the OJ trail or earthquakes in Japan.

Guess I'm just a failed-Dem. That's the best news I've heard all day!

May God bless and protect our good friends in England. They're suffering today and I'm sorry.

Well, I think it's pretty clear that Iraq singled us out as a target.

Why? Why not Afghanistan (that's what Galloway said today......that it was both Afghanistan and Iraq). And why did they not single out Poland, a strong ally there?

What was it that singled us out for 9/11, or any prior attacks from al-Qaeda?

I don't think you can make a direct connection between Iraq and what happened today...........though the left would love if you do that. It fits their template very well.

Islamofascists don't need a reason. They kill because they want to kill. They mame because they want to mame. They hate freedom, and they hate Western culture.

Connecting it to Iraq distracts from the real cause of what happened. Evil people.

Now it's time for us to call you, my friend. Shall we rise up to the challenge and destroy these bastards once and for all?

Let's.

Many Americans are with you on this, Ivan - I'm one of them.

I always go with the unwritten rule that in the live threads, rules of spelling and grammar are suspended unless the offending poster is insulting another for being an idiot.
