BLAST AT CITY TUBE STATION - FOUR BOMB EXPLOSIONS AROUND LONDON
Sky News ^ | July 7, 2005

Posted on 07/07/2005 1:45:13 AM PDT by RWR8189

There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.

There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.

The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.

A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."

British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

All the lefite Brits who would be saying that are up at GlenEagles challenging the riot police today. They are probably stunned that their big media moment has been pre-empted by the attacks in London.

But the enviromentalists have locked up our dirty coal (remember Clinton making a national reserve or treasure or something of several million acres ?)

Lots of Americans don't want a coal mine in town because they do pollute a lot. This does not make them enviro-wackos. Read up on the mining industry in Montana for an example.

and they stopped nuclear power plant construction, too.

Most Americans dislike nuclear power plants. A couple a years ago they wanted to put one up in my area and almost everyone said NO WAY.

You're missing the big picture if you keep blaming everything on environmental wackos.

Great! It is rare to see coal used around here except in a couple factories.

I'd rather pay $3 for liquid automotive fuel made from coal, biomass or whatever and know the money wasn't supporting our enemies.

If everyone just ignored these idiots that blame everything on Bush then they would wilt away into obscurity.

I wish you were right, I really do. But I live in the "intellectual" liberal capitol of TX. These people are organized and they get out the vote with these lies. The kid sitting in the office across from me honestly believes that Bush was culpable for 911 and he does his best to indoctrinate friends at school (between bong hits) and get them to vote Democrat.

I'm afraid we have to pay attention to this new Leftist anti-Americanism in the same way we should have taken Japan and Al Qaeda more seriously before they attacked us.

Not yet--but the "We're in Iraq, it's OUR fault" is playing live this AM on the radio.

Of course, Khobar and the Cole (not to mention WTC #1) all occurred LONG before we took out Saddam...

London's been odd today. I set off for work at about 9.15 having heard on the radio that the tube was not running luckily I caught a bus and got in. I came out of a meeting to catch up with the full horror of the news. I had to walk home, in fact I came through the city (financial district)since I live quite close to Liverpool street station and Aldgate. It was incredibly quiet because of the lack of traffic and obviously fewer people about than usual, but everyone seemed really calm probably because we've been used to terrorist bombings over the years (especially in the city). Obviously I wasn't in New York but it seems different because the incidents were in confined areas so, apart from going close to an area that has been roped off or the larger number of shops and bars being closed than usual, it's not necessarily obvious that something has happened. In fact there were people still not sure of what had happened at lunchtime.

Anyway look after yourself. :-)

Your son will be just fine. Grovesnor Square is heavily protected and the building is a fortress. And if it was a target that they could get at, they would have.

No worries.
