BLAST AT CITY TUBE STATION - FOUR BOMB EXPLOSIONS AROUND LONDON
Sky News ^ | July 7, 2005

Posted on 07/07/2005 1:45:13 AM PDT by RWR8189

There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.

There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.

The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.

A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."

British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

let's hope. But I am not so sure. I am not sure that alot of Brits aren't simply going to say "if we hadn't gotten involved helping the US, they would not have attacked us here". does anyone know if that kind of sentiment is being pushed by the Britisih, or even the US, media yet?

Yes, it is a miracle. He told me that he left a final dinner early to get some sleep so that he would be in good shape for the final day of his internship and yet somehow, he slept right through his alarm. There is no other explanation.

UXB does mean "unexploded bomb". It's a term from WWII. They were finding them years after the war ended, and had teams of defusers to deal with them.

just woke up and heard the awful news. I feel just nauseous. Prayers for the victims, the wounded, and the British people. May these evil murders strengthen the resolve of the UK to stomp terrorism off the face of the earth. However I fear we're about to see a reaction like the one that followed Madrid in 2004.

We need to collapse the Arab economy. They only have oil.

I say we just go in and take it as recompense. If the communists are going to keep saying that this is a "war for oil", might as well.

Some posts of interest:
I was on the Met line tube this morning but got off at Moorgate to grab a coffee. Apparently, the first one went off on the Met line between Liverpool Street and Aldgate - can't help but think it was the tube I was on. My thoughts are with anyone caught up in this, and count my own blessings.

Yesterday, we were annoyed with Londoners and English people. London won the games and Paris lost them. And today we wake up. We realise that these little fights between old friends are for spoilt children. We are all facing a huge challenge. We have all to fight terrorism. We are all Londoners today. We all feel sad and share the pain of the one who are suffering today. Do not worry my friends, we will be with you in this fight and we will win it.
Julien, Paris, France

Our thoughts are with you. People from Madrid know very well what you are suffering.
Antonio Garcia Martin, Madrid (Spain)

We are standing with you London. As you did for us. Stay united.
Mike, New York, USA

We were held at Kings Cross Station for about 20 minutes, stuck inside the tube. The station had already been evacuated but they wouldn't let us off. When we were finally evacuated, Kings Cross area was bedlam. I tried to get on a bus, no chance! Decided to walk to work instead and when I got to around the Euston Square area there was a massive explosion in the road next to me. People were running away screaming and in shock-it was terrifying. I later found out that this was the bus explosion. We're now being held in our offices and provisions are being made for us to stay here overnight
