Lets see, besides inventing the telegraph, radio, telephone, machine gun, airplane, computer, atomic bomb, nuclear reactor, laser, internet, and going to the Moon, the U.S. has also landed spacecraft on Mars, Venus, Saturn (moon), on one asteroid, and now on one comet.
White European liberals and radical Islamic suicide bombers are no doubt saddened by such achievements, however.
After their new mayor on Friday, how will we recognize who is responsible for the destruction?
This isn't a viable experiment for ICBM interception due partly to the size of the target. That's why we have missle interception tests over the pacific (which I totally support). As far as comets or astroids hitting the earth, I'll put my money on the good Lord, not NASA.

It was only a matter of time, but the luddites have come out in force.
Not all high-speed interceptions are always going to be missiles; some may very well be of comets or asteroids on Earth Impact Trajectories, for instance...
...And the Good Lord helps those who helps themselves...and he's also warned us by showing us that such celestial objects have hit the earth in the past, with large losses of life.
I'd also add that your *fetish* with not spending money is a wasted talent. Should the Earth be hit by an Extinction Level Event due to *not* spending enough money on earleir interception tests, the padded bank accounts from said cost savings will have utterly no value to a dead Race of Man.
I agree. To find real value in this experiment does take considerable imagination.
The proof is in the pudding. Comets and astroids have hit the earth before and we are still here aren't we? You put your money on NASA, I'll put mine on God.
It also is a realtime televised demo that we can put a bee (or anything else) in anyone's ear here on earth.
This was a demo sniper or missile shot.

I watched it on the NASA TV and also internet coverage.
I would like you to elaborate and explain why it's important for you, to know what comets and the early solar system are made from, and how this relates to you in your everyday life. I'm sorry, but all this experiment proves is, that we can hit an object the size of Manhatten in space. It does not prove once and for all that the U.S. can protect the planet from spaceborne threats.
You left out the word "to" between the words States and protect.

This is all well and good, but I could have told them how the solar system got here......for free.
I don't want to sound like a party pooper, but if a celestial object is coming to wipe us out, that means God is punching our ticket.
I'm enjoying what NASA is doing, but let's build staions on Mars or something.
