If Bush Doesn't Nominate A True Conservative, I'm Voting For Hilary For Presiden
Self | July 2, 2005 | JohnRobertson

I just realized...I mean that.

It's going to come down to this.

I have often argued, as many here have, that when FReepers said they would sit home rather than vote for (McCain, usually, sometimes Guiliani), that such sitting out would put Hilary in the Whitehouse.

But I'm not moving on this.

That too.

These folks are dogs in the manger and yearn for EVERYONE here to be as miserable as they are. They aren't just masochists, they are beyond that term. It's the beat me/whip me/make me bleed from every pore crowd.

These people do remind me of kids I have seen in the store throwing tantrums.

Fortunately my three kids never threw a tantrum -- one time my oldest daughter came close, saw the look on my face, and quit. My son said the look on my face is worth a 1,000 words when I am mad and not saying anything.

Since when has he given conservatives reason to doubt him on Judicial nominations? The failure isn't with Bush. It's with people that refuse to believe he is who he is.

The 'Rats and their media allies and supporters know - they are pleading for the President to nominate a "moderate" (i.e. moderate now, liberal on the bench). Would they need to do this is they thought the President would nominate a moderate anyway? NO! They know he'll nominate a Conservative candidate.

In addition, they wouldn't be screaming so loudly now if they didn't have grave doubts that the filibuster will hold.

Our president has stood firm thus far. Now is not the time to doubt him or his resolve, but the time to let him know we are behind him. We won't let the liberal lefties intimidate us now, not when we have the power to change things right in our hands!

Good idea to e-mail President Bush with positive comments!

So many times I use e-mail just to complain about things, i.e. Dickie Durbin's outrageous comments.

I think that President Bush is truly a man for our time.

If you listen to talk radio, Michael Medved had an excellent program about the hand of God in creating America.

It was uncanny about how this nation came to be.

Wish I had a link.

Any FReepers have a source for the link? I'm on dial-up (cheap!).

Anyhow. It made my resolve even stronger. We truly do live in the greatest nation on earth.

We'll be at an aunt's pool party consuming too much macaroni salad and overdone burgers.

Happy Fourth DG!

I think some of them are paid but they are sure not trained very well. These recent ones remind me of the people on the Dean blog -- nutcases or naive for the most part. My assignment during the primary campaign was to follow the Dean blog and report what was happening on a daily basis.

Couldn't believe they kept swinging the bat to get money even on the night he was withdrawing, his campaign people were still raising money passing the bat. It was really strange -- I posted comments from there on here that night. There were a ton of people on there that didn't have a clue about politics. I see some of the same remarks on here I laughed about when I was keeping track. I should dig out my notes and I bet I would find more matches.

One thing's for sure, I don't like this Gonzales guy one bit. When I heard him dance around illegal immigration issues on the Laura Ingrahm show, it was a dead giveaway to his CINO status.

Why does it seem to be taken for granted that everyone here is all going to back the same candidate? For everyone to do this, wouldn't this take a real, no nonsense, outspoken conservative? To be honest, I haven't seen one in a very long time. Where being jack-hammered on domestic issues, and there seems to be no candidate that will address the many pressing domestic issues.

You said: "Hmm this is looking like a Troll more and more...he still hasnt responded or defended his claims...HITnRUN?"

Had a family emergency that pulled me away as soon as I posted it. Had to come home, took a look, and have to run back out soon, but am disheartened to see that most people have missed my point, which is:

We have to send strong messages NOW. To our president, our reps, our senators. Now. No wavering. This is what we want. The talk about if not this time, next time, parse your principles and beliefs, maybe if we don't get what we want this time, we just bide our time....

I believe you should play each day as it comes, and take the long view as often as possible. The former makes you reasonable and fair, the latter gets you past the bad days. I also believe that you should know when you will not compromise, and this, for me, is that time. I'm "going all-in" on this one.

If they get their person on the SC, and we don't get ours ... I'm not gonna like what an activist SC majority will do. Look what's happened in the last generation with a so-called "split" court, and how the "moderates" somehow manage to put horrible decisions over the top 4 times out of 5. Nope, not gonna do it. (Though I do admit to being intrigued by the thoughtful poster who suggested that we start a true third party...interesting possibility.)

I don't have time to read past your post (wife is handing me cash and coffee, to attend to situation mentioned above) but I just have to comment:

You're calling me a troll...when you haven't even been here one month, and I've been here four years? So...you think if you sling enough crap, we'll think you're one of us? Throw up a post, let's take a look. See how many responses I got on a Saturday night? Obviously, I know how to hit a nerve. (Or FReepers are too boring to have any plans for Saturday night!)

Seriously: Ease your way in. Get into a few pissing matches. Let people start to recognize you as someone who's been around a bit longer than three weeks....

Then we'll talk.

Why does it seem to be taken for granted that everyone here is all going to back the same candidate?

Unfortunately there are too many FReepers who feel "conservative" equals "republican" and/or "proving one's conservatism" equals "voting republican".

For everyone to do this, wouldn't this take a real, no nonsense, outspoken conservative?

Nah, the liberal (R)'s don't go for those types.

I, for one, am very happy. I was concerned for awhile that we would not see even one SCOTUS retirement with 43 in office. I believe we are about to see the reason the '04 election was so important.

No less a LIB Icon than James Carville said, and I quote, "America's about to get a civics lesson" to Tim Russert on Sunday morning after the '04 election. Mary Matalin just had a wry smile on her face.

Carville is slime, but he knows his politics.

This is going to be a knock-down, drag-out no matter who is nominated, so why not go for it? I KNOW that is the way Bush thinks, so I predict a true conservative...

In many ways, this is much better than Rehnquist retiring. Let's get it over with now; BEFORE the '06 elections, if the D's win this battle, they will certainly lose the war. I would NOT want to be a D Senator in a "Red" ("Blue" prior to 1996) State if the D's trash a great, yet conservative candidate.

One down, two to go... (Kennedy, Ginsburg...)

If people listened to the President he stated he wanted "fair treatment, a fair hearing and a Fair vote". He stated he expected an up or down vote.

Does this sound as though the President intends to nominate an O'Connor for the bench? If he was going to nominate someone the Libs liked why would he need to warn about treating the nominee with respect? Would he need to issue the command of a vote?

No.

That was a clear warning to the Senate.

Is NOW freaking out because they think this President will nominate someone they like? No.

They are making threats to this President. They are pleading with this President. But this President isn't where they are directing their energies. They are working on the weak RINO's as we speak, and it is THEM we should be watching.

Uh, no, that's not what's been said on this thread. The claim is that anyone willing to vote for Hillary is not a true Conservative.

When a Republican is out of line, we say so. I offer my Senators (Sonovich and DeWine) as evidence of that.

Problem is that it is VERY rare that a Republican, even a liberal one, is Left of the 'Rat. Lieberman v. Weicker is about the only one I can think of. And since I have no desire to waste my vote by going with a Turd Party, I rarely vote outside the Republican Party for the Presidency, House or Senate (in fact I haven't since my first election in 1978).
