Same-Sex Couple Accuses Innkeepers of Discrimination
CNSNews.com ^ | June 30, 2005

Posted on 07/01/2005 9:31:42 PM PDT by Sweet_Sunflower29

Should a Vermont couple, wedding planners, be forced to host a same-sex civil union ceremony at their family-owned inn, if they object to such unions?

A lesbian couple says yes, and it has filed a discrimination charge against the innkeepers, accusing them of violating Vermont's Fair Housing and Public Accommodations Act.

The innkeepers, identified only as Jim and Mary, say they did not refuse to plan or host the reception - but Jim did tell the woman who called him that he would have a hard time putting his heart into the event, given his Roman Catholic beliefs about marriage.

The Liberty Counsel, which is representing Jim and Mary, has asked that the discrimination charge against them be dismissed on the grounds that the innkeepers, although they expressed reservations about the civil union ceremony, did not refuse to plan and host the event.

The Liberty Counsel says there must be an exemption to the discrimination charge based upon the free exercise of religion, free association, and the right of parents to direct the upbringing of their children. (Jim and Mary have eight children who help run the inn, which is located on the same property as the family's home.)

"This case seeks to authorize the government to become thought police," said Mathew Staver, president and general counsel of Liberty Counsel.

"This case also illustrates the radical nature of the same-sex agenda - to target a family-owned inn based upon one telephone call wherein the [innkeeper] clearly admits that he could not put his heart into a same-sex civil union ceremony.

"Forget tolerance - this case is about forcing others to endorse same-sex unions."

What is wrong with these folks? I don't mean the gay part, though sure, there's something wrong with that. I mean this mind-boggling ability oto preach free speech and tolerance while attempting to legally force others not only to do what you want, but to verbally agree with what you want. I guess this must be an example of the "cognitive dissonance" (known by normal people as hypocrisy) that liberal professors like to talk about.

They're just looking for trouble. Imagine if a normal couple were told they weren't welcome at an Inn for their wedding. The last thing they'd want to do on they're "special day" would be to endure the hostility and hassle.

I would think the same hold true with the mentally ill people described in this story. They are just spoiling for a fight, and maybe a cash settlement.

Good for Mary and Jim. It kills me to see what has happened to Vermont. I had an ancestor who fought in the Revolutionary War who settled there and helped build the state in it's earliest years -- he was even an inn-keeper too.

It was just a matter of time before lawsuit after lawsuit will be filed against anything that even has the appearance of discriminiation against homos.

This is as obscene and cruel and thoughtless on the part of the homosexuals as about anything I can think of...aside from them parading around with great big blown up plastic penis's and high heels and leather thongs on their obscene parade days and forcing our beloved Walt Disney's vision of family theme parks into allowing them to pollute the magic with their dirt.

They attempt to book an Inn wherein the family who owns it have EIGHT CHILDREN and are deeply Catholic? What kind of horror are these homosexuals, anyway? DO they get off on shoving their perversion upon those who find it sickening? Why are the homosexual activists so DEVOID of COMPASSION and UNDERSTANDING and TOLERANCE? They should have simply said to the owner, ' We understand, our sexual hunger offends you, and we would never attempt to display our desire to marry in front of your children. That would be wrong.'

although they expressed reservations about the civil union ceremony, did not refuse to plan and host the event.

The reason the suit was filed was not that they would not perform the ceremony, but that they did not do it with enthusiasm. I do not think this will get far even in the out of control judicial system we have now.

I guess religious sensitivity - which includes giving Korans to terrorists, and not doing anything that might offend their religious beliefs - does NOT apply to law-abiding Christian citizens.

I agree; as a private business they should have the right to refuse to accomodate deviants...I think the perverts just targeted that inn to get a lawsuit started.

Just read on another thread commenting on this same travesty that in that state there are literally hundreds upon hundreds of B&Bs. Many that cater to homosexual proclivities.

Still...homosexuals say that if they can't stay at the B&Bs open for business (ie family run B&Bs with children present) then no on can. Many inns have shut down because of this crap. (literally and figuratively)

Also--if small printing businesses refuse to print their pornography (homosexual literature, ads, whatever) they are run out of business.

Another poster on the other thread called these homosexual activists 'the homosexual taliban'.

Works for me.

Jesus said: "And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore, they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." -from THE BIBLE: Matthew 19:4-6

IT'S A PRIVATE COMPANY. The left never seems to grasp the difference between public and private, and it forces us to hear far too many cries of "censorship" and "discrimination".

Life isn't fair lezzies. We tolerate you but to ask us to also like you is just too much.
