I DO NOT TRUST TRENT LOTT.

There have been too many reports of Trent Loott plotting to return to the Republican leadership.

This would be a golden opportunity for him to be a power broker of some form.

I am already dreading the inevitable "mccain the moderate maverick" interviews.

Impeachment is the preparation of the papers. He was impeached and resigned. Bill Clinton was impeached but not convicted. As to 73 or 74, I do think you are right about Aug 73.

But what is your point?

Yes, he has a big name and I'm sure many Dems would vote for him

But I still believe in the end ... he will not make it out of the Primaries

There are too many strikes against him

Ted Olson would be a great nominee--I never thought of him.

I really like Ted Olsen. Plus he has already been through a confirmation for Solicitor General and I don't think that the Senate dems are as likely to try to drag him through the dirt as they might with other nominees. As I recall, he sailed through the SG confirmation.

Hillary as C-in-C would be a disaster during wartime. The 'Rats in general are not up to the responsibility of leading this country.

Personally I will never support a pro-abortion candidate.

Sounds like by most people's definition you are one of those cantankerous moral conservatives. :-)

You said a date. You did not make it clear what you were referring to. People were posting that Bork was partly betrayed by the pubs because of his role in the Sat Nite Massacre.

You are calling me "intellectually challanged" and accusing me of "feigning ingnorance" and you are complaining about name calling?

This is the GOP's big chance...

One of at least two that they will have before GWB makes his exit fro the WH.

The serious nature of this appointment and the one or two more that will follow cannot be overstated. They will either perpetuate the current activism, thus destroying the Republic, or they will transform the Court into the originalist body it was intended to be, and preserve the nation for another generation.

This is for "all the marbles" and it will determine whether or not our children and grandchildren will live as a free people or kow-tow to a powerful elite.

The vocal, boistrous, intense, passionate, and unrelenting populist campaign for originalist judges began today. Be part of it, or begone.

If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I think that any nominee who doesn't support Roe v Wade will be bitterly opposed. SCOTUS nominations and confirmations have become a one-issue battle. This is what happens when judges enter the realm of politics and usurp the funcitons of other branches -- they subject their branch to political considerations.

And, let's not forget, a grandmother with a sense of humor who loves to join in child-like banter. It's nice to be a kid again, huh?

I agree completely. Look at Bork, he was also Solicitor General and acting Attorney General back in the 70's. Look what they did to him.

But, one of the reasons I think Ted Olsen might be a good choice is that because his wife Barbara was killed on the plane that hit the Pentagon on 9/11, the RATS may be a little less likely to do to him what they did to Bork.

But Robert Bork also sailed through the confirmation process -- in 1981,for the circuit court of appeals in Washington, D.C. Even EMK voted to confirm that year. By 1987, however, the beloved EMK spoke dire warnings of a "Robert Bork's America."

I love living in Oklahoma -- now when we get J.C. as our Governor, I am going to really love it! Had my picture taken with J.C. at our State GOP Convention and told him that Cleveland County where I am Vice Chair and home of OU and J.C. will be behind him 100% when he runs for Governor and he replied "I am counting on you and Cleveland County!" Would work 24/7 to get J.C. elected.

The chemistry between Sen Allen and J.C. at our Convention was electric. You could tell they are good friends.

BTW, our Lt Governor Mary Fallin was thinking of running for Governor but announced yesterday she will run for reelection. Only one person would have kept her from running for Governor and that is J.C. Watts!

He was impeached and resigned

Impeachment requires a majority vote of the House, that never happened with Nixon. Nixon was not impeached.
