The message of the last three decades in American politics is that right-to-life is the central issue of American politics.

I don't agree. It is THE central issue for many here. It is THE central issue for many democrats. But the overwhelming majority would probably be happy to see abortions legal until 12 weeks, and illegal after that. A push for a complete ban would pull support away from us, and a push for eliminating birth control pills will have people running, screaming in the opposite direction.

You won dear, now don't get your BP high right now.

Cute. Don't misrepresent what I've said in an effort to shelter your error.

The big deal is that the chief justice assigns the cases to various associate justices, thus trying to shape decisions by putting the right players in the right place.

Ok, but if the full set of Justices get to vote anyway, I guess I don't understand how this shapes things.

Did any of you hear Warner's speech, either on the Senate floor or in front of the press?

If you didn't, I will fill you in...but I am hoping someone other than myself saw him.

Please, any one that is reading this, let us know if you heard either of Warner's speeches...

I never hear his name mentioned here in local politics. Most think he made a huge mistake in not responding to attacks -- just laid back and then he only lost by less than 5,000 votes and Richardson, the Indy now Republican again, took 100,000 votes with his "free" everything stance.

Don't think Brad Henry, the RAT Governor, had a very good night last night when he heard that Mary was running for reelection.

"I am 63. The reference to "1973" hit me as a reference to Watergate. It was rude of him to call me ignornant based on my looking at a year, and thinking of Watergate."

You know, in mentioning that someone might be young, I didn't mean to imply that you were or were not. Only that the reference was not as obvious as many thought it was. And you're right about Watergate.

By the way, I love New Orleans.

PRAY HARD

...and pass the ammunition. God helps those who HELP THEMSELVES (DO something too).

I called the President's White House Comment line at (202) 456-1111, managed to get a hold of a real live person, and said,

"Since the President is sincere in calling for 'The Ownership Society,' then he darn well better nominate a Supreme Court justice who will STAND UP FOR PRIVATE PROPERTY RIGHTS and vote to OVERTURN KELO!"and McCain-Feingold... and Raich and ...
PLEASE DO THE SAME.

Don't be so quick to imagine that social conservatives will abandon the GOP to the soulless Muffies and Skippers. This is not Muffy's great, great granddaddy's GOP and it never will be again.

My problem is with the people on here that claim to be social conservatives and want to pick up the ball and go home if they don't like something and then will remark that it doesn't make a difference which party is in charge, etc.

I am a Conservative Republican and I cannot feature saying I would sit out any election -- never going to happen because it is too important to me to keep the ball moving forward. We have got to be heard as grassroots in the primaries and work in those trenches to keep sending more conservatives to Congress. We are making real progress and the naysayers on here are getting on my nerves very rapidly.

More and more democrats are joining the Republicans because the democrats led by liberals Hillary, Teddy, Kerry, and Dean etc. have left them ideologically. We are so close to achieving the goal of overturning RvW, that I cannot feature anyone willing to sacrifice that because they don't agree with a candidate 100% and that is what we have on this site by a number of people.

I didn't vote for Bob Dole in the primary, but I certainly voted for him in the general election and would do it again. I would even hold my nose and vote for McCain in the general election because he is bettter than a RAT, but I sure intend to work as hard as I can to make sure I don't have to do that.

What has Pres Bush been nominating, why was he against Souter, and the list goes on -- will some of you stop it with the gloom and doom before anything happens. There must be a little black cloud hanging over this site recently.

He started out by talking about O'Connor's distinguised career...yada, yada

Then he started talking about how President Bush needs to nominate (get this).."a uniter, not a divider", and how the GANG of 14 was so instrumental in getting some of his federal court nominees voted in, that Pres. Bush NEEDS to follow one of the rules of the GANG's agreement, that he would "CONSULT" with the Senators BEFORE nominating someone...

Then he went on to throw the rest of the Reps. under the bus, because he was talking about how dismayed he was about the Terri Sciavo case, and that he regrets being one of three senators that Sunday night that did that....

He pretty much hit every single one of the DEMS "talking points" regarding President Bush's judicial nominees...

and he is REALLY, REALLY proud of what he helped do with the GANG of 14...

I hated the speech the first time on the Senate floor, but then he went out to the press and gave the same speech...

I bet Schumer, Dodd, and Kennedy were in the back room just cheering. I was disgusted!

Kathryn Lopez on the Bench Memos blog:

"I think the people who elected W president will be happy with who he puts up. But that's based on nothing but a confidence in this man's principles and instincts.

PLEASE ping and fill me in. I heard a bit of Warner's press conference, but flipped in after he had named the person who so angered him by saying the senate's "advise and consent corrupted".

In the meantime, I'll be looking for an article that quotes him.

Agree on all three cases (Kelo, Raich, Mcconnell vs. FEC)
Justice O'Connor picked the absolutely best time to resign. Kelo is still very fresh on everyone's mind. This will compete with abortion as an issue in the confirmation process.
