Very few overweight women happy

LONDON, June 30 (UPI) -- Only 1 percent of overweight women in a British survey said they are happy with their shape, blaming the celebrity culture for their attitude.

Of the 4,000 overweight women questioned by the National Slimming Survey, 83 percent said they suffered from deep "self-loathing". Some 91 percent felt depressed and 79 percent said they felt "utter despair."

Two-thirds of overweight women said they have felt like "life is not worth living," Sky News reported.

The survey also said 74 percent admitted to hiding food in their bedroom, car, garage or garden. About half of respondents removed size labels from clothing.

Among 1,000 men questioned in the same survey, 94 percent said they felt "like second-class citizens."

Is it even possible for a woman to be fat because she's enjoying her life?

A little bit of pudge, yes... after 30 some women just start carrying more weight every year... I was always thin when I was young, and I ate what I want. I enjoy meat and milk and buttered bread, the diet of a hobbit, and I admit, I have started to ~look~ more and more like a hobbit every year. But beyond a little pudge and you're no longer just happy about it, it affects all of life to have that fat in the way, it affects your ability to be active, and it affects how sexy you can feel with your husband.

So, my standard anymore is not to be thin as I was in college, but I'd like to look better on a horse, and feel better about being sexy. My husband doesn't mind me.... we've only been married a year, and he didn't know me thin, but I mind.

if the picture that used to be on your 'about page' was of you

If the one that is on there now is her, then I'll shoot her if she displays any more self-consciousness! But I have a feeling it isn't. She talks too real. ;~D

If there's one thing in life I find the most irritating and insulting, it's thin women who tell ~ME~ about their diet issues.

I saw a commercial that stated that the difference between a lover and a wife was about sixty pounds.

Laz -- I do understand that there are those who suffer from being chronic overeaters in a way that has nothing to do with simple will power. I think what got me about this story was the idea that others were to blame for their condition. But you are obviously right, the general rule does not apply to every single human being, and you have my admiration for fighting the difficult battle.

Once you hit forty, it's tough to keep the weight from creeping upwards by several pounds a year. You have to exercise plus really work at healthy eating, deliberately consume smaller portions, more veggies, cut the butter and fat, just to keep from gaining. This helps keep your blood pressure down, and is life-saving.

Good reply. She didn't divorce him, and he continues to avoid her, because she is fat.

But, you are wrong about one thing..she's not a witch. Very sweet lady. Go figure..oh well.

You may well be right, but these things are often misunderstood when they problems of a couple are relayed by one person. Is she sweet around you. Yes. Is she sweet when the doors are closed, you really don't know. I have seen this time and again. The nicest people in the world playing the "pity poor me" thing until everyne hates the husband, and then come to find out later that things were very much different than they were portrayed.

Did you hear the man say "I don't love my wife anymore because she is fat"? If you didn't hear those words from his mouth, then you really cannot make that claim as a fact. It may be your opinion, but it's not a fact.

If you did hear him say those exact words, then I agree with you. They guy is a scumbag.

But there are two sides to every story, and when two women get together, the man's side seems to vanish completely into the whole "women good, men bad" orgy that seems to be genetically predesposed.

It's not always easy to be a woman, but sometimes it can be downright hard to be a man. Men rarely have people to run off to and bitch to their wives about. At least nobody who cares.

I'm pretty sure that is confronted with this exact arguement, the husand would have a slightly different take on it that the wife. And the fact that she is your good friend means that you are probably very biased, which is not bad, but rather human nature.

I would encourage everyone else to reserve judgement though. If a man doesn't love his wife because she gained weight, then he never loved her in the first place. Love is not contingent on such things. So if that is truly the case, then that was NEVER a marriage based on love, IMHO ... and that brings a whole new set of potential faults into the equation.

If you are ging to marry someone who wants you only for your looks, you better stay looking good ... because you know (or at least should know) going into it that this is what the marriage is based on.

I find it interesting that overweight men do not share the unhappy plight of overweight women. I'd like to have a nickel for every time I've observed an obese, unkempt man make derogatory remarks about a "fat woman" or ogle at a perfect "10" kind of gal with no reservations about his own imperfections. There is a double standard. Maybe that's where the unhappiness originates.

Actually, fat women love Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, et al. (don't ask me how I know). Probably moreso. The more obsessed fans are usually the least, how shall we say .... "Elle Magazine Material". And they look just as much as men.

This really isn't a gender issue.

Fat slobs like to look too, just like poor people like to look at Fararri's.

That being said, most (decent) men I know are not nearly as hard on women as women are on themselves and each other.

That's the key to the entire issue. Until women realize that this is something they do to themselves, it's not going to get better.

"Post your pic and let me evaluate :-)"

I would, but

a) There aren't any recent pictures of me, and

b) I don't know how.

NEVER ask him if you look fat because it's not about him anyway; there is no right way to answer

My answer was always "I don't know; take off your clothes and I'll tell you", but that never seemed to help.

Hmm, size 8 at 5'6"? Care to post some pictures? /insert friendly, wholesome smile here

Heck, I drive by the local HS and it's getting hard to spot size 8's there. Darn shame I have to go home to my wife in order to see a woman with a good figure. /grin
