LONDON, June 30 (UPI) -- Only 1 percent of overweight women in a British survey said they are happy with their shape, blaming the celebrity culture for their attitude.
Of the 4,000 overweight women questioned by the National Slimming Survey, 83 percent said they suffered from deep "self-loathing". Some 91 percent felt depressed and 79 percent said they felt "utter despair."
Two-thirds of overweight women said they have felt like "life is not worth living," Sky News reported.
The survey also said 74 percent admitted to hiding food in their bedroom, car, garage or garden. About half of respondents removed size labels from clothing.
Among 1,000 men questioned in the same survey, 94 percent said they felt "like second-class citizens."

My mom has already lectured me about looking good for my husband and waking up before he does so he doesn't wake up to a horrible looking wife.
LOL... I remember thinking that way. I believe I 'got over' that the morning our first son was born, after he watched the Cesearean, my husband was sitting next to me when the nurse came into the hospital room to change my (ahem) pad.
In 13 years, he's seen me through two C-sections, one VBAC, a hysterectomy and an open gall bladder surgery. And believe it or not, he thinks I've got_it_goin'_*on* at 33 much more then I did at 20.

I don't get mad until women flirt with my husband right in front of me.

No doubt, there is many a bastard out there, but I think you'd have to agree women are much more conscious of their "public face" than men.If you had my direct experience with these chameleons, you wouldn't be so sure of your friends virtue, I think.

Is it even possible for a woman to be fat because she's enjoying her life?

As a formerly-overweight fellow myself, I can tell you that eating filled a hole in my soul that G-d has filled, via the 12 Steps of Narcotics Anonymous.

Well, there is a very easy solution to being overweight. Less garbage food plus regular exercise equals no weight problem. It's not that simple. Many people (myself included) can be compulsive overeaters. We are looking to fill a hole in our soul.

Well, she's my friend, and of course I believe her when she "shares". But you may be right, "nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors"...:)

I find it interesting that overweight men do not share the unhappy plight of overweight women. I'd like to have a nickel for every time I've observed an obese, unkempt man make derogatory remarks about a "fat woman" or ogle at a perfect "10" kind of gal with no reservations about his own imperfections. There is a double standard. Maybe that's where the unhappiness originates.
