It is time to change the national anthem. The land is no longer free. Last week, in an appalling decision that will prove to be every bit as infamous as the Dred Scott and Roe v. Wade decisions, the Supreme Court eliminated the American right to property and in one fell swoop, converted the country into the legal equivalent of a Third World society......

It's been about a week already. Still waiting for a republican reaction to this......
The feudal analogy is most appropriate.
Don't hold your breath. The republicans in power are in favor of this. Our government has openly declared war on us citizens and no longer makes any pretense about it.
The court really did cut the throat of the property owner in this decision if one has to face a legal battle with a locality or government entity.
The rule now is basically that we little people can own the less desireable land while big business and big government reserves the good land for itself.
Raze The Supreme Court. Build The Home Depot.

"It's been about a week already. Still waiting for a republican reaction to this......"
Keep waiting. The national Republican party, from Bush on down, is statist through and through. This is NOT a problem to them.
Only 5 days. But with the sword of Damocles dangling over you, it seems much longer.
Unless it succeeds in rousing the public ire. What better to convince average dems to elect a congress that won't put up with this tyranny, to pressure sitting dems to okay W's choices.
Frist--WSJ.
"O'er the land paid for by bribing pols......
And the homes that got razed"
If George Bush is so intent on "exporting democracy," maybe he should try exporting a little in Washington, DC. He can start in the chambers of the Supreme Court.
Exactly. My family is made up entirely of conservatives and we are DISGUSTED by GWB. He wants our soldiers to fight and die in Iraq to bring democracy "over there" all while Rome is buring without a word from him.
Don't even get me started about the illegal alien invasion he seems to be happy about.
Little by little we are being dismantaled. Brick by brixck our house is being taken apart because of power hungry pols.
For the people with money, it won't be. Even legitimate eminent domain uses are not so easy with people who have the money to fight it. Case in point, many years ago when the interstate system was being built, the planners decided that I-40 ought to go directly through the middle of Memphis. Unfortunately for them, one of the neighborhoods that would have a freeway runing through the middle was where the old money and power was. Guess what? To this day I-40 goes AROUND Memphis, not through it.
Or a Dem reaction.
Because let's face it they claim to represent the LITTLE GUY/GAL/GAY and it's those folk who will have their modest homes stolen 1st.
Virginia Republicans are already working on a bill to enact into state law protections against this kind of taking. I understand that Florida is working on a similar tack.
It will take time to fix the Supreme Court, but at least in this case we can use our legislative outlets to fix the problem. I'd rather have my constitutional protections, but I would imagine that in most states you should be a ble to pass a law since most people should be opposed to this type of taking of private property.
There is no longer "justice for all" either. Now it is only "due process." And from the "right to live" to the "right to own property," you don't have to be found guilty of a crime to lose this. You only have to receive the 'due process' that decides that your interests are of lesser value.
I could be off base with this, but it seems to me this is of those desperate measures. You know, let's take down that slum along the shoreline and build something beautiful (and profitable). I think they are believing the BIG LIE, there is always going to be a price to pay. I can even begin to imagine the bad that can come from this. Good God help us as we slip down the slippery slope further.
Isn't the SC the highest in the land? How then, can a state (law) ignore the SC ruling if a company wants your land? I'm asking in all seriousness because I want to watch what our reps in Maryland are going to do.
