It's like a bad dream...But this is real. We live under a regime that can...grab our homes...pays us what it thinks the property's worth, and then hands our property in finely crafted "sweetheart deals" to developers...
This is not an isolated case...[t]his is happening all across the nation. Local officials looking to boost their tax take through eminent domain like a vampire looks for fresh neck arteries....
Politicians' lust for money doesn't stop with homeowners and small businesses, though. Churches don't even pay taxes. No revenue stream for politicians at all. Uh-oh....
"We don't oppose churches," Council Chairman Samuel Dean told The Post. "The concern we have is that sometimes churches eat up a lot of land that could be used for other things." ..."None of us are against God." But added: "We're losing tax money and retail." ....
Don't be fooled.. In this case judicial restraint means a general increase in government power....
Certainly, the only meaningful public benefit is more tax dollars collected and spent by politicians. The public gets whatever trickle down benefits come of this government spending. Lucky us.....
They actively expand government power whenever citizens threaten to exert some control over it. And when governments kick John Q. Public in the teeth, the black robes stand aside, in "judicial restraint....."
It reminds us of the fact that while our judicial system has been hijacked, so too have our legislatures and city councils become dens of thieves...
. The Kelo decision tells us how predatory our government has become. The America Dream, cut into and carved up by so many politicians, was this week struck down by the courts. But we're not giving in to them. We must get it back.

That's "corporate-socialism", not "corporatism".
That's exactly right. As I've said before, they've got a dog in this race, too.
This was a misguided decision by SCOTUS.
They simply failed to use cost benefit analysis and only looked at the benefit.
Here the benefit is that investment yields commercial developement, jobs and the homeowners get market prices for their property so there is no cost in the narrow view.
Taking a broader view, because everyone's property can now be taken via emminent domain, everyone's property in the entire United States is now worth a little less.
That is the cost the SCOTUS failed to realize.
This is repeated again and again throughout govt. "if we only spent a little more on xyz program, we could get these benefits" They never tell you about the costs which are higher taxes which diminsh work incentive and reduce economic activity.
Thanks for your post. I had NO idea how bad this is. I listen to Neal Boortz a lot and that's where I first learned about this issue. Boortz talks about starting at the local level and slowly getting a citizens group together....that is, to monitor local officials. What do you think about that? We'll pray for your success. Please keep us posted!
YES, we MUST NOT lose ourselves in the partisan blame game. The judges ruling in favor are authoritarians. They are not liberals in any sense of the word. Neither are they conservatives. This decision was a power grab, of, by , and for the government.
It's becoming obvious to me that Bush feigns conservatism, but what he really is -- as a previous poster put it -- is an elitist.
I'm taking my tinfoil off now. This ruling proves I am actually mainstream.
Homeowners to High Court: Stick it where the sun don't shine.
They can have my land, when they take the deed from my cold dead hands, but they'll be looking down the barrel of a S&W (pre PC S&W purchase--and as with anything like that w/ me, used) .38 snubnose before that...
If they start really abusing this newfound power, we may have to do like some brave GIs did in a corrupt Tennessee town years ago--take up arms against the government..
BTW, though we're right too, the DUmmies are right also--this is FASCISM. Of course except for the leanings on issues along the political spectrum, fascism and communism are ideological paternal twins. Cast from the same root, but taking divergent routes, that the common man is too stupid to be trusted with their daily lives in their control, needing a philosopher-king (to use the carefully nuanced words of Plato) to rule over them, whether it be the Duce or the Commissar. Both deny the dignity of the individual and put one group or another outside of the relam of acceptability in their respective societies. In fascist Italy it was democrats (small D), in Nazi Germany it was principally (though not limited to) jewish people, in the Soviet Union it was Christians, capitalists, those who believed in a pluralist society, etc.
But anyone that tries to come in to take my property better have a plot ready already.
I thought this was a land grab for private usage.
A land grab for government usage is what is now considered good around here. Ya know. The more urban renewal projects that are publically(government) owned the better.
Right???
It's just crazy enough to work!
Well, it is a land grab by well-heeled interests through the instrument of local government. It is a power grab by government because they hold the power of eminent domain, and that power has been expanded.
How about outrage from a GOP Mayor of a major muncipality
Fat chance..All the local politicians are seeing $$$$$
Im sure Home Depot and Marshalls and other BIG store moguls are already checking ou tpossibilities and are out on the golf course as we speak with local mayors and such opportunist , looking to make a deal..Im getting more and more disgusted by our politicians as time goes on..Republicans included..We now have a govt. of professional money grabbers..There are NO statesmen left..Not a one
government usage means private contractors , equals big money for the right person..The possibility for corruption is massive here.Someone close to me works for a myor in a North NJ town..He's ALREADY drooling at the possibilitys here..Dump some local homes and get in the BI BIG BIG $$$$ mall planners ( of course , there is a little SOMETHING in there for the mayor for his cooperation). The mayor wants to retire in 3 years as a rich man ..here's his chance..
You think these local political hacks give 2 flying craps about the"community"?.This is an outrage..
