Reid: 'I am at war with your country'-(transcript of shoe bomber sentencing; great judge here!)
CNN.com ^ | January 31, 2003

Posted on 06/24/2005 10:01:08 PM PDT by CHARLITE

The following is a partial transcript of the court hearing in which Richard Reid was sentenced to life in prison for his confessed plan to try and blow up a jetliner with explosives he had hidden in his shoes. The exchange is between Reid and Judge William Young.

RICHARD REID: I start by praising Allah because life today is no good.

REID: I further admit my allegiance to Osama bin Laden, to Islam, and to the religion of Allah.

So, for this reason, I think I ought not apologize for my actions. I am at war with your country.

JUDGE WILLIAM YOUNG: You are not an enemy combatant. You are a terrorist. You are not a soldier in any war. You are a terrorist. To give you that reference, to call you a soldier gives you far too much stature. Whether it is the officers of government who do it or your attorney who does it, or that happens to be your view, you are a terrorist.

And we do not negotiate with terrorists. We do not treat with terrorists. We do not sign documents with terrorists.

We hunt them down one by one and bring them to justice.

So war talk is way out of line in this court. You're a big fellow. But you're not that big. You're no warrior. I know warriors. You are a terrorist. A species of criminal guilty of multiple attempted murders.

In a very real sense Trooper Santiago had it right when first you were taken off that plane and into custody and you wondered where the press and where the TV crews were and he said, "You're no big deal." You're no big deal.

The transcript is not long, and it is well worth reading. The allowable excerpt doesn't do justice to this exchange, if you will pardon the use of the word as connected with this insane creep!

Before reading the article, I thought you meant Harry Reid.

After reading the article, I still thought you meant Harry Reid.

We went WAY WAY out of the way to save this Asshats life. Now he must wish that he had been sent to Club Gitmo.

Anyone who thinks Reid will survive long in prison...is living in a dream world. This dude will be dead within two years. His only hope is that the muslim population in the prison will take care of him. If I were the warden...I'd make sure he's in a prison with few if any Muslims. Let him feel the anger in a prison. He will get whatever he deserves.

"He's a Reagan appointee."

Thanks for sharing that information, kesg. Very happy to know it. Now his "lecture" to this piece of slime is all the more exceptional.

Somehow, I can picture a liberal left socialist revisionist "living constitution" judge saying something like, "Make sure the bailiff doesn't place your handcuffs on too tightly, Mr. Reid........and if you encounter any RACISM while in your assigned cell, file a complaint immediately. If your copy of the Koran isn't delivered promptly by an officer wearing spotless white gloves, I want to hear about it also........and any other problems which might beset you during your stay in our regrettably shabby American detention facility."

"If you prefer to burn an American rag-flag, be sure to mention your intention to one of our potentially brutal wardens at your earliest opportunity, as I wouldn't want your to have to delay your symbolic flag-burning protest gesture, which would risk causing you to feel angry with America, and we can't have THAT!

Thanks for your response, kesg!

Char :)

Excellent - strong evidence that we need to get the judiciary back. It is SO RARE nowadays that I am proud of what a judge would do.

Try imagining one of the Clinton nit-wit judges saying that - try to imagine what one of the ACLU appointees or for eco-lawyers that he appointed to the bench would have said.

It seems to me you hate the one thing that to us is most precious. You hate our freedom. Our individual freedom. Our individual freedom to live as we choose, to come and go as we choose, to believe or not believe as we individually choose,/i>

What an outrage would have been heard if this judge had started this paragraph out like this: "It seems to me you Muslims hate.........". However, it would have been the truth but many close their ears to truth.

Reid can and most likely will survive.

You want to find out what AQ can do in prison, search Mamdouh Mahmud Salim.

Reid: 'I am at war with your country'

He's not a terrorist, he's trying to be a rock star, in the vein of:

"I Fought the Law and the Law Won"
"I Fight Authority and Authority Always Wins"

I expect his first single any day now:  "I Am At War With Your Country, and Lost"
