A lieutenant from the Northern Fleet of the Russian Navy was crowned Army Queen 2005 in the Beauty in Epaulets contest held in a Moscow theater Tuesday, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.
The queen, Ksenia Agarkova, was selected from 21 female finalists, all serving in branches of the armed forces ranging from infantry and naval units to the countrys space forces.
Ksenia graduated from the St. Petersburg Shipbuilding Institute and for the past two years has been serving in the Navy as an engineer at a laboratory of the fleets firing range. She has been awarded a military medal for participating in 18 missile test-launches.

Not bad at all. :-) Wouldn't mind seeing the other contestants!
Could you imagine the fall-out...if our armed services pulled of such a stunt.
Even if for charity...A calendar called "Woman of the USAF!" would probably get a chilly response.
FIRST RUNNER-UP!..........
I'm going over the wall!
They already have a Navy Idol contest.
AGGGGGGGGGHHH!
Cripes! You've GOT to warn a guy!
(What a cold shower!)
She can scrub my deck anytime.
I don't know, might get some of us a little hot under the collar. lol
Just be glad I didn't find a swimsuit pic........
I wonder if she is up for some submarine duty
wtf is wrong with you man?!
/gouges eyes out.
Thanks a lot.
lol
I'd serve under her...
Tie me up and take me to Lubyanka...
In the Canadian Armed Forces, to be respectful of 'Canadian Values', they'd choose a transgendered, bi-lingual mesomorphic dwarf.
Toads are an endangered species, I read earlier today.
Beauty in Epaulets competition
7th March '03
The world may be on the brink of a conflict in Iraq but in Russia there is a serious shortage of glamorous female soldiers. In a novel bid to recruit more women and raise its profile, the Russian army has launched its own beauty contest.
The Beauty in Epaulets competition will test serving women soldiers on criteria ranging from good old-fashioned domestic skills like cooking to good old-fashioned military skills like shooting. Funnily enough contestants will also need to show off their talents for singing and ballroom dancing. Lost in Moscow
Huh...the U.S. navy has a similar pageant? Surprising.
I wonder if each service branch had their own swimsuit calendar...would it be good for morale? or bad?
(Again, I think the USAF would abstain from such a stunt because of all the problems at the Air Force Academy)
