HAMILTON, Ohio -- Vigilante justice seems to have taken over in the community where a 9-year-old girl was raped Monday, News 5 reported.
Someone set fire Tuesday evening to the house where the attack occurred. Six Mexican immigrants were renting the house in the 900 block of Sycamore Street, and neighbors believe the attacker lived there, News 5 reported.
Racial tensions rose high after the attack, with some angry residents threatening to burn down the house and take other retaliation against Hispanics in the area. Someone had spray-painted "Rapest" (sic) and "Child Molester" on the house.
The victim's father asked people to let police handle the situation.
"They probably mean well, but they're taking everything in their own hands and they should leave it in the police's hands," the father said.
One neighbor told News 5 the community just wants justice. Some neighbors are alarmed that the alleged attacker is still on the loose.
"They're just trying to get a suspected predator off the streets," Eric Price said. "Everybody's outraged. I can't even believe it myself."
Hamilton police Det. Mark Hayes said vigilantes interfere with police efforts to find the attacker.

I guess it'd be smart not to rent to illegals in the first place. I wish you would share your wisdom with the homeowners who hire illegals to work in their homes. Of course, these homeowners have many excuses, such as "it's the contractor's responsibility to weed out the illegals."
It strains credulity to believe that despite having illegals working in his property for several days, a homeowner will never suspect that the illegal workers have immigration problems.
I believe that US Representative Trancredo needs some of your wisdom.

You're right. Though a no-knock assault doesn't usually lead to damage on a neighbor's house....

I guess it'd be smart not to rent to illegals in the first place. There is a whole raft of Federal and state laws pertaining to how landlords are allowed to screen tenants. Anything that smacks of racial discrimination will bring the full weight of the government down on the landlord's head.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

re: The landlord now gets insurance money to rebuild his rental house. That's a good deal for him.)))
Maybe he'll have a hard time collecting. Keep in mind that we all have to pay for insurance and the idea is to spread the risks, and control the risks. Could be the fine print will mess up his coverage.

Yep, if you have the cajones to detain someone under a citizens arrest, you actually have a broader power than Police but are open for liability claims....not to mention having to shoot a perp coz he looked crosseyed at your wife.... :-)

Do you have a choice as to who you rent to?

You know, there are a lot of business people hamstrung by these Catch-22s. Generally we care most when our own ox is gored. It's not an easy business to be in--the government doesn't much care that people need affordable housing and they need landlords to provide it.
But if a landlord is working hand-in-glove with these Godfathers--I don't have much sympathy. "I didn't know he was illegal" is becoming a convenient excuse.

You're right. Though a no-knock assault doesn't usually lead to damage on a neighbor's house....But it has resulted in the deaths of innocent people, hasn't it?
What was their remedy?
Sure, the cities paid settlements to the victims' families, but the perps (cops) who did the killing got off scot-free and the victims were still just as dead, weren't they?

True. They're both horrible, and both groups of perps deserve to be brought to justice.
Luckily for them, I'm talking about legitimate justice, not yahoo vigilante stuff. These bozos deserve their day in court too.

They believed the attacker lived there because the attack occurred there.Whether he lived there or not I dont find those who did unresponsible for letting this happen in their residence. Some things you have to conclude from the story as written is that the other occupants knew the perp or they would be yelling from the top of the building that this happened without them knowing about it.

It occurs to me that if our Justice system were actually WORKING, there wouldn't be any Vigilantes. We wouldn't need the Minute Men either if the "Government" would close the borders. When are those in power going to start listening to what we are trying to tell them? This is why we have the 2nd Amendment, so we can defend ourselves, even when those we put into power won't.

I find it impossible to accept that a "landlord" is not aware that he is renting to a bunch of illegals. As a counter-argument: You can get sued for discrimination for demanding the proof of citizenship. Further, in many areas, town or city laws makes it darn near impossible to get people out once they are in - you can end up losing more than the value of the house by trying to get rid of them.
At some point laws create injustice as well.
