Vigilantes Torch House Where Girl Was Raped
Channel Cincinnati ^ | 22 June 2005

HAMILTON, Ohio -- Vigilante justice seems to have taken over in the community where a 9-year-old girl was raped Monday, News 5 reported.

Someone set fire Tuesday evening to the house where the attack occurred. Six Mexican immigrants were renting the house in the 900 block of Sycamore Street, and neighbors believe the attacker lived there, News 5 reported.

Racial tensions rose high after the attack, with some angry residents threatening to burn down the house and take other retaliation against Hispanics in the area. Someone had spray-painted "Rapest" (sic) and "Child Molester" on the house.

The victim's father asked people to let police handle the situation.

"They probably mean well, but they're taking everything in their own hands and they should leave it in the police's hands," the father said.

One neighbor told News 5 the community just wants justice. Some neighbors are alarmed that the alleged attacker is still on the loose.

"They're just trying to get a suspected predator off the streets," Eric Price said. "Everybody's outraged. I can't even believe it myself."

Hamilton police Det. Mark Hayes said vigilantes interfere with police efforts to find the attacker.

Vigilante "justice", especially racially based, can get out of control very quickly and lead to murders, assaults, severe property damage, etc. It's better to let the police handle it. Fire as a weapon is especially stupid.

That they disappeared is a pretty good indication. It's how my local Mexican "godfather" operates. One of his little band of slaves-for-hire causes some trouble, and he disappears the next day. El Jefe keeps the peace. I don't like having an El Jefe in my town, but there you are...

Yeah - that's it... sue the landlord. That will solve the problem.

What's racist about this action?

"with some angry residents threatening to burn down the house and take other retaliation against Hispanics in the area."

Want to point to the criminal being punished here? There was another crime committed by the mob against a third party who had nothing to do with this crime. These idiots didn't even know for sure that the real criminal even lived there.

When citizen are forced to act on their own to protect their children, the law is breaking down. I live near Bradenton where the creeps buried the raped child alive -- and it's too much.

It's time for citizens to put their dimes together and build halfway houses for sexual predators so they can live next door to the judges who let them out.

If you juggle grenades, one of the pins just might fall loose and blow up.

In many small towns, there's a "godfather" that has a nice working relationship with owners of run-down homes. The owners get rent, and the godfather gets a piece of the action.

If a landlord thought he could get into trouble dealing with organized crime (that goes unmolested by LE)...maybe he wouldn't be so happy to deal with a godfather.

A godfather who, every day, gets a little more power. Unelected. So far, he's not into drugs or gangs. What about his successor?

I assume they are illegal as well, but I don't know and am not quite ready to string up the landlord until I do know.

I would kinda hope this forum had a higher standard than "a pretty good indication".

In my neighborhood, we follow the rule of LAW and do not presume to be above it. We are not hooligans in my 'hood. We have RESPECT for other people's property, even if they rent to illegals.

How do they know the fire was deliberately set? How do they know the inhabitants weren't being careless with meth or other dope paraphenalia, or cooking with an open flame?

Personally, I would write this one off to "s*** happens."

Here's how it works.

Don Hernandez is locally respected, and the locals dislike the illegal activity but they recognize that it could get a lot worse than Don. He brings in the illegals under cover of darkness, provides a couple with North Carolina drivers' licenses (you see these in GA, SC and Ala) so that they can get to their "jobs". He also finds housing, thanks to landlords.

Contractors like the cheap and pliant labor. Don gets a little kickback both from the contractors and the laborers themselves. He keeps the peace. He only brings in the humble and the well-behaved.

The county has an official unemployment rate of 10%. How do you like that? Lawful Americans can't get those entry-level jobs, and not just because the wages are repressed. The employers get a lot of advantages other than cheapness-- the workers never squeak at being treated unfairly. It pays to break the law.

I can't tell you how much I hate seeing a syndicate take over my town. And I know that on some level, GW knows this is happening.

Yeah, it wasn't the landlord's problem - or his fault. He also became a victim. The law spends more time protecting the rights of rapists and killers than protecting innocent citizens. It's an outrage. And it's caused by having too many liberal judges on the bench.

When citizen are forced to act on their own to protect their children, the law is breaking down. I live near Bradenton where the creeps buried the raped child alive -- a nine year old. The people who covered for the rapist walked. In a two bedroom trailer they "didn't know". Yeah, and the judge bought it...

It's time for citizens to put their dimes together and build halfway houses for sexual predators so they can live next door to the judges who let them out.

Your reply deserves being repeated!!! I LIKE it!

Old concept in justice. If the law won't take care of it, it's just us.

May I use it for a tag?

Police say the suspect enticed the girl to the vacant home and raped her.

After the alleged crime, police say the girl ran across the street to her home, nude, and told her dad what happened.

"She said, 'the guy across the took my bike and told me to do what he wanted or he'd kill me'," said the victim's father, who 9News did not identify to protect the identity of the victim.

When the father went to the home, the suspect was still at the home, apparently lying naked on a bed. He then took off, getting away from the father.

~snip~

Although police say the house was abandoned, the landlord has told 9News that six tenants have been renting it since December.

It seems that others disregard for the law, not only the vigilantes, is at least in part responsible for this unfortunate situation.

Perhaps they should share in the blame, eh?

How can you sue the landlord? Landlords' rights are limited when it comes to respecting the rights of the tenants who rent the house. For example, I own rental units and by law I just can't walk inside the home I own whenever I want. I cannot just kick out the tenants because they have not paid their rent.

Stop it. I also know how the system works and oppose illegal immigration, but this was never the point of discussion.

Do you have any proof the residents of the house that was set ablaze were/are here illegally? Because you think it doesn't make it so.

Were they illegal? Probably, but unlike you, I will demand facts not hunches.

Just admit you made an assumption that you currently have no proof to support.

As the mother of four daughters I'm not condoning the rapist, but the house was being rented! The owner of the house is innocent and has now been handed a huge problem he has done nothing to earn. Was the owner supposed to know in advance what one of the tenents would do?
