As has been discussed on Free Republic earlier, Downing Street Memo Originals Destroyed -UGH!, British "reporter" Michael Smith has told Asociated Press that he copied the original on plain paper and then destroyed the originals.
But click here and you see a Reuters Wire Photo Showing a "Seal" on the "copy" offered to the press.
The caption reads, "A copy of the so-called 'Downing Street Memo', produced in July 2002 for Britain's Prime Minister Tony Blair on the legality of the invasion of Iraq. Photo by Stephen Hird/Reuters".
Did he really destroy them, type them on plain paper? Don't look like plain paper to me Lucy.....Lucy Rameriz!
Looks like Michael Smith has adopted Dan Rather's mantra, "FORGE ON!"
I'm not diving too deep into anything.
I'm just repeating what Rush Limbaugh said today. I expect he will keep his word and look into it.
And yes .. Rush mentioned it is a very common name.
Hey guys. Interesting story, no? HOw are you gonzo? Doc.. you got freepmail.
That info is about the fake NG documents, right?
I presume you're showing there was a Michael Smith working with Mapes .. but Rush already knew that .. what we don't know is whether it's the same Michael Smith.
2006 election campaign now underway!
BTW, the seal in the reporter's 'copy' seems to simply be a negative of the 10 Downing Street seal in posts #22 & 24 (black is white, white is black) set within a circle. Is it possible such a seal is used for certain occassions, level of corrospondence, classified material, etc?
Of course that doesn't address the question of exactly why a reporter would add a seal to a copy he retyped if he wasn't trying to mislead.
Note the clever misspelling in my post #107, to throw any reporter off the scent by appearing dumber than I am, lest they discover that I am actually the brilliant Karl Rove, who used secret double agent Michael W. Smith to plant this phony memo and ultimately set up Chris Matthews and half the Senate Democrats (since it worked so well on Rather. HAHAHAHAHA!!!(cue lightning flash))
Michael Smith is the Defence Correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. He was born in 1952 and served with the British Army for 15 years, mainly with the Intelligence Corps in much the same role as that carried out by most of those who worked at Bletchley Park 30 years earlier. He left the army in 1982 and worked for the BBC before joining the Daily Telegraph in 1990. He has since reported on the 1991 Gulf War, and on successive conflicts in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq. He is the author of a number of books on espionage including the number one bestseller Station X: The Codebreakers of Bletchley Park; The Emperor's Codes; and Foley: The Spy Who Saved 10,000 Jews, which led to the official Israeli recognition of the former MI6 officer Frank Foley as Righteous Among Nations, the same award given to Raoul Wallenberg and Oskar Schindler. His latest book The Spying Game: The Secret History of British Intelligence was published in April 2003.
It's not the same Michael Smith.
Can't be the same one.
This other guys' name is Michael Smith A Freelance Journalist from Texas.......LOL. That's ALL I can find out about him!
We, your fellow Freepers, dub thee, "Doctor Raoul Buckhead"
Well done.

Link to the NY Times article posted on FR:
When was the Reuters photo first published? The DSM's existence was revealed by Smith May 1 as I understand it. The black circle above the lefteyepiece of the glasses in the Reuters photo makes me think this was a photocopy of an original that had hole-punches in it. If Smith destroyed his photocopies, how did Reuters photograph one, and when? After May 1? I would presume Smith would have destroyed the photocopies after his "typing/copy" job, but before the story went to press.
This guy is not a run of the mill reporter....
I got question Ernest who own UK Telegraph i don't think it is Rupert Murdoch I think those twin brothers what their names are
"Recommend THIS PHOTO.... Recommend It: "
It seems that Reuters was just conducting a PhotoShop image contest.......... The eyeglasses in the image were a nice touch.
Be that as it may, anybody could claim to have transcribed the original of any document and then destroyed the originals.
I transcribed the original confession where John Kerry admitted to sabotaging Senator Heinz's aircraft so that he could later marry Teresa Heinz and live off a $550 million fortune. Of course, I destroyed the originals to protect my sources.
Doctor Raoul, you are ALREADY famous like Buckhead. Next we must discover if you can bend it like Beckham!
