U.S., Iraq Forces Battle Insurgents (About 50 Insurgents Killed in Iraq)
AP ^ | June 18, 2005 | JACOB SILBERBERG

Posted on 06/18/2005 2:51:57 AM PDT by West Coast Conservative

U.S. Marines said Saturday that about 50 insurgents have been killed so far in the American military's latest campaign to stop foreign fighters infiltrating Iraq from neighboring Syria. About 100 insurgents have also been captured in the operation that began Friday in Karabilah, about 200 miles west of Baghdad.

The campaign was being waged by about 1,000 Marines and Iraqi forces, backed by main battle tanks.

Karabilah is just outside Qaim in the volatile Anbar province.

Insurgents are nationally born people raising up to throw off the oppressors, these people are plain and simple TERRORISTS

The AP is at best ignorant because it doesn't seem to know the difference, at worst compliate in misleading information

"About 100 insurgents have also been captured in the operation"

Since they aren't nationals from any one particular country, and no country will claim responsibility for them, they have no geneva convention rights. Still, what do we do with them? We now have to house them, give them hot meals and treat them like royalty, give them a better life than they ever had trying to fees themselves out the outside. In fact, we have to make them live the democrat socialist utopia dream, be housed, fed, given free medical care, and pampered 24-7, for the rest of their lives should they stay in prison.

In a sane world, they would be executed. but in this one, they will be let go to try an American or bomb civilians again.

I suspect that they will be turned over to the Iraq troops for 'questioning' and for housing. They operate just a little differently than we do there.

The DUmmy crowd calls these foreign fighters freedom fighters even though they target mosques, markets, civilians, and are not nationalists fighting for their country.

The administration should follow my idea. Shut down Club Gitmo. Transfer all the prisoners to a non-air conditioned prison camp in Iraq under the control of the Iraqi army. Leave them to the tender mercies of the Iraqis for interrogation.

The prisoners and the libs who wanted them out of Gitmo will soon be begging and tearing clumps of their hair out to get back to Cuba.....where by the way, the temperature is in the high 80's while it's 114 in Baghdad.

Still, what do we do with them?

The best thing we could do for these scum is not make them prisoners.

Exactly. I'm hoping they'll be Kurdish Iraqi troops.

I totally agree. Notice that these insects avoid Kurdish held territory in Iraq. I wonder why that might be? :)

These are impressive numbers for an enemy so shadowy. Well done U.S. Marines!

This is how it has to be. Slow and steady. It is hard to find, capture, or kill an enemy that blends in so well. I invite any one to read up on "Fourth Generation Warfare" as it relates to this battle in particular. We are in an era of a totally new type of fighting. It combines old school small unit tactics, with the information age. It is a pain when these independent cells are able to communicate so well. In the past they operated independent of others. Now they share information, and are more difficult to locate. Since they know when we are coming, from the other splinter cells. I only pray that America will have the staying power (the civilian population), to see this to the end. It can take years. We need to look no further than the IRA, PIRA, FARC, PLO, etc...

I know the Marines can do it...

at them like royalty,

Trust me they aren't being treated like royalty. Far from it. Especially that once we are done with any questioning of them, we turn them over to the Iraqis.

as for their meals, their diets automatically improved the moment we captured them. That is just a fact of life over there.
