Durbin Issues Belated Apology (Humor)

June 17th, 2005

WASHINGTON (APUPI) Amidst growing outrage at his comparisons of US troops to Pol Pot's regime, Nazis and Stalin's Gulag, Illinois Senator Richard Durbin backed off from his earlier comments today, reading from a prepared statement outside his office that he hadn't meant to directly compare the situations:

"I realize that my comments unjustly slandered many people in southeast Asia and other places who were simply trying to achieve a better society, and did not intend to compare what they did to the horrific atrocities that were occuring, and continue to occur, in Guantanamo. I wish to deeply apologize to those, like International A.N.S.W.E.R, who properly took umbrage at such an odious comparison. I hope that this apology will finally lay this issue to rest."

He refused to take any further questions.

I was shocked that he savaged communists in the first place. I'm glad he's mended that fence.

I think this thread emphasizes just how important headlines are.

Folks, please......this is a satirical piece.

However, it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Durbin Laden issued such a statement.

You get a pole about 12 feet long - you tie Durbin to it - then you get some roofing tar and you swear the tar all over Durbin - then you break open a feather pillow and dump the feathers on to the tar - then you pick up the pole and parade the Sh*t Head around Washington and dump Durbin - the pole and the tar and feathers into the Patomac.

He does not serve this country well.

Laura Ingraham nailed it. She said he'd weasel before Monday.

You should read more carefully, LOL, this is a "humor" post, ie Scrappleface, etc. He has NOT apologised, nor will he, unless clarifying counts.

I thought he refused to apologize?
Any apology that comes after a refusal to apologize is an indication that the person apologizing doesn't mean it and is trying to save himself from the carnage of his words.

That's an apology? He should just resign. He is the enemy.

My guess, the good people of Illinois (voters) reminded him their votes count, or Reeds charge, of trying to blame the White House for Dunghead Durbin's remarks was starting to show just how desperate the dummies are....
Hillary gets to avoid comment (make it go away, make it go away...they'll pick on me)

YES, THIS IS SATIRE.

But the fact that so many people here didn't take it as such says a lot. I did a double take myself.

Not necessarily about the posters, but about how surprised we are (or are NOT) to hear the most vile swill coming from the Dems.

Two years ago, it would be unthinkable for a US senator to say what Durbin actually said.

So I wouldn't be totally surprised if the "parody" comments DID come out of some leftist's mouth sometime soon. Probably have already!

That's what is so sad about all this.

The Durbin apology is worthless; Durbin slandered all the American POWs from WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam! Hopefully the good people in Illinois will make his political career just as worthless.

Al Jazeera loves him.

I really hope the people of Illinois will run with this one. Maybe someone will place a large ad in their newspaper slamming him (and informing those that do not pay close attention to what goes on) so it might "register" with Durden...... or would it? My heart goes out to any soldier that hears of this story. Hang tough soldiers, this is NOT the norm. Are some politicians so bent on nailing our wonderful President that they are willing to hurt the souls of those fighting for our freedom?

Aww. The mods ruined your thread by putting (HUMOR) in the title.

No fun anymore.
