Ok, I feel victim to a set up here!

This thread WAS locked and redirected to the first earthquake thread.

When I saw your post in 'MyComments', I assumed you were posting from the earthquake thread.

NO! I did not link you back here because I was blonde!

CNN is saying one town partially evacuated and FNC said the quake is too far off to cause any concern. So I guess CNN is scare mongering again or as John Stossel would say "Gimme A Break!"

Don't hate me when you're inundated with car chase alerts. :-)

The San Andreas Fault has the potential to devastate all of the west coast

the right shift in the right place could level any city from Baja to Alaska

Unless there ends up being a wave, and FNC is accused of wrecklessly endangering peoples lives. hehe

They must be scrambling, but all the regular shows are on. There's a "flash" news ticker though, at the bottom of the screen on msnbc: a tsunami warning is in effect.

There are now two more threads in breaking news.

.

Los Angeles' KCAL Channel 9 TV News is talking to TROY NICOLINI of the National Weather Service. He is stating that the Tsunami Warning is STILL in effect as a precaution.

The earthquake felt to him like a moderate one that lasted a very long time.

An official lookout is watching for unusual wave activity and measuring devices the measure the water level placed up and down the coast will be the final indicator.

He says that this earthquake was 6 miles deep.

He will have more info in about 5 minutes after doing some checking with his lookout and measuring devices.

YOWZERS! That's a mighty big blue box there!!!

Ernest. Before you ask, no. I didn't feel this one either. I am, however, going to go out tonight to the boat store and buy one.

Yikes! And I just read on another thread that they're warning of a possible tsunami in that area. Be careful, Tonkin! Prayers for all on your coast that this doesn't happen! Glad the CG is reporting no waves in your immediate area!

My husband was born in San Francisco and lived there all his life, up until a few years ago. He says they have earthquakes and tsunami warnings all the time -- he also says instead of staying inside, people would go down to the beach to look for the tsunami (there never was one when he lived there).

i had lived in the Bay Area for 36 years, and i'd never heard a tsunami warning... earthquakes you could actually feel are not that common... we now live closer to the central valley...

Now we are getting a scrolling red banner with a nasty periodic beeping that the tsunami warning has been cancelled!

Weather channel is not aware of the cancellation however, they like still talking about it!

La Jolla has an hour yet before it might arrive!

National radio news reporting Crescent City is being evacuated

Makes sense, Crescent City was really hard hit by the wave from the Alaska quake in '64, and the geography's pretty much the same as it was then. There's some low elevation residential areas on the west side of Humboldt Bay, about 30 miles south of Trinidad (which appears to be the closest town to the epicenter). They'd be at risk, but we'd probably have heard something by now.

FR's tubebender is in Eureka, on the east side of Humboldt Bay. I'll be looking for his posts once he signs on.

FWIW, the local state college radio station is still broadcasting usual programming, so it's probably another one of those 'strong shakers' that north-coast folks get used to. There's several faults just off the coast, plus a point where the plate that's drifting south meets the one moving north, so "7 plusses" aren't terribly unusual up there.

It took TWC an hour to report there had been a quake and tsunami alert issued. They'll give it up about 10:15, I figure. :-)

Everything cancelled as per KCBS radio.
