Two Lodi men arrested for suspected al Qaeda ties (Ca)

Federal officials believe they have broken up an al Qaeda terror cell operating in Lodi and have arrested two men and detained two others as part of a wide-ranging investigation, authorities said Tuesday. One of the men arrested, 22-year-old Hamid Hayat, is accused in a federal criminal complaint of training in an al Qaeda camp in Pakistan to learn “how to kill Americans” and then lying to FBI agents about it. His training included explosives and weapons instruction and using photographs of President Bush as targets, court documents indicate.

I wonder how long they have been watched and listened to?
And how many useful contacts were milked from that process, leading to the decision to take them down, today?
In my book, they are "illegal combatants" just like the WWII Germans attempting to land from sea on the East Coast.
Among that group were US citizens, and resulted in a Supreme Court case, valid to this day.
Treason works, too.
What worries me is the trend to convict for relatively minor crimes, with short/medium prison sentences.

Reminds me of my relative who lives in a small college town in the Dakotas - she expressed 'surprise' that a few years ago some middle eastern students on their campus put on a musical performance in which they sang songs about how bad America is (someone translated as the performance ensued) and she thought this was 'rather uncomfortable to watch'. Duh! Looks like the terrorists know that small town America should be a target too.
