Florida's Katherine Harris to run for the Senate in 2006 Tuesday June 07, 2005

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Republican Rep. Katherine Harris, who as Florida's secretary of state was both praised and vilified for her part in the 2000 presidential recount, said Tuesday she will run for the Senate next year against Democrat Bill Nelson.

I think this is great news, that she's running. The more the MSM howls about how she'll "motivate" RATS is music to my ears. As if they weren't braying loudly in 2002, with Jeb running for re-election.

In fact, the more the MSM howls, the more I think they fear her and believe she can win. If they praise a GOP candidate, we probably have a loser!

KHarris is a very tricky candidacy. She may win but she may turn off more than a few people.
Ms Harris is a big girl, able to make up her own mind. She was convinced to defer the last time a Senate candidacy opened up, but now she has thrown her hat in the ring. If she's ambitious what else is she gonna do - wait for some other Republican to get the only remaining Senate seat and wait "her turn" behind both of them? If she gets the nomination it's because Florida Republicans like her.

If Democrats don't like Governor Bush that is their problem because he won twice anyway, and if Democrats don't like Ms Harris any more than they like Jeb, that will be their problem if she wins the Senate seat.

I blame Connie Mack more than Jeb for there being a Senator Nelson (and what an embarrassment he is)....Mack would have easily beaten Nelson. If his health had deteriorated he could have resigned and let Jeb appoint his replacement. Guess what would have happened...no Jumpin' Jim Jeffords (the RATs would have had nothing to offer), no lame "power sharing" between The Cheerleader and Dashole, etc, etc. W's agenda would be a lot farther along than it is right now, and Florida would have had two Republican senators.

I have nothing but accolades for Ms. Harris, but if the Crats could run that nutball Betty Whatshername last time with Bush thumping Kerry and come within a few thousand votes, we got no shot next time at Nelson. Not good news.

Martinez was a weak candidate. All those RATs who voted for W went right back to the dark side and voted for Castor. Martinez is lucky that the RATs ran a candidate even weaker than he was.

Bill Clinton didn't let a Florida Judge get in his way over Elian Gonzalez.

I was just disappointed in Jeb. I didn't think he was quick enough, innovative enough, or aggressive enough to properly handle this case. I don't believe he is executive material and is out of his element.

What happens when a Judge issues an edict and an executive refuses to carry it out? Can the Judge hold him in contempt of court? Its not like Jeb is a private citizen or corporation. He is a CO-EQUAL partner in government.

The Courts are totally out of control, the judges have a God complex, most of them are activist liberals and they simply have to be brought under control or our government will collapse.

"Republican Rep. Katherine Harris, who as Florida's secretary of state was both praised and vilified for her part in the 2000 presidential recount"

Funny, I don't remember hearing any praise. All I remember is cracks about her wearing too much makeup. Amazing how the feminist party has no problem picking on a conservative woman. If someone on the right were to make a crack about Hitlery being an aging lesbian pork-beast who probably has a penis, then all hell breaks loose.

And for an older woman, Harris looks pretty tasty.

The 'rats want you disaffected with JEB. They sent plants by the pound to Schaivo's Hospice. They acted looney for the cameras. When they were rolling, people flocked to get on TV, not to save Terri. I was there I can tell you what I saw with my own eyes. It would have been a losing situation either way.

I said it when it was going on, people are being manipulated. The 'rats only have manipulation left as a tool, and they have 40 - 50 years of manipulation experience.

If you think Judges don't force the executive branch to carry out rulings, then you have a rude awakening coming. The judiciary have gained the upper hand, we have them telling legislatures what laws to pass, and telling executives what laws they must ignore. Even referendums can be nixed by a Judge.

This photo looks more like the Katherine Harris I know! I am proud to say she is my Congresswoman and she will be a sensational Senator!

BTW that photo of her on the horse is for real. She works out every day and is very disciplined about her diet.

She's a devout pro- life Christian.

She's accomplished some important legislature such as the American Dream bill which helps more people achieve home ownership.

She's worked hard on veterans issues and has been successful in getting a Veterans Cemetery for Sarasota County.

She's a tough campaigner and excellent speaker. She will work very hard to beat Nelsen and win the Senate seat.

BTW I'm been told that she is #3 in raising money for other GOP candidates.

Here she is giving a speech at Harvard where she earned an MBA.

And YES.... I have been a dedicated campaign volunteer for KH.....I even came between her and some Code Pink Wackos who were harassing her!

She's got the class, charisma and the smarts to beat Nelsen.

100% agreed.

And, truthfully, I cannot understand the fear people cite about being polarizing. Bush was polarizing and he won 51% of the vote. These same people contend Hillary will win (something I dispute as inevitable), yet she is polarizing. Why the doube standard for Harris?

Truth is that Mel was a weak candidate. Poor name recognition. He wasn't very confidant in debates. As a Senator he comes across far better than one on one with the opposition during the election, but he squeaked out a win. If Mel can win, a candidate the base already knows and likes certainly can.

I wanted her to run in '04. She held off at request of the W.H. This is her turn. Certainly she'll have no trouble raising a war chest, she has helped many other Republicans fill theirs.

And I look forward to watching the Dems in the Senate absolutely lose it the minute they see her face on the floor. LOL

I was wondering when the Harris boosters would show up. I remember having a few arguments over her possible 2004 candidacy -- I think things have worked out for the best and this is a better situation for her to be in. Don't think she'll have too much competition in the primary either. I also think since this isn't a prez year and most of the voting issues have been cleared up the 2000 situation will fade to deep background by the time the election rolls around. (Expect the rats to repeatedly bring up current voting issues and blame them on Harris though.)

Either Crist or Gallagher could easily beat Nelson (polls show them both winning)

Be that as it may, neither of them have the name recognition, or voter identification Harris has. Simply stated, she's a celebrity and they aren't.
