Man with concealed-carry permit shoots gunman

Dayton Daily News
DAYTON | Two men carrying guns approached a 40-year-old man at Riverview Avenue and Catalpa Drive early Friday. Their victim bent over with outstretched hands.
Then things changed swiftly.
The targeted man pulled out a Glock 23 handgun he has a concealed-carry permit and fired several shots, hitting one of the gunmen, police said.
Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of West Riverview at about 12:45 a.m. on numerous calls about a shooting.
Police found the 40-year-old male victim at his Dayton residence. He told them that he was walking west on Riverview when he was approached by two males in dark clothing coming from Catalpa. One shoved the victim, the victim turned around and both men in dark clothes flashed handguns, police said.
The victim then "began to back away in a bent-over position with his hands outstretched," according to a police report. Then he pulled out a Glock 23, a .40-caliber handgun, striking one gunman several times, police said.
The two ran off, but police said they caught up with possible suspects at Good Samaritan Hospital.
The victim has both a Dayton Firearms Owner's Identification Card and Montgomery County Concealed Carry Card, police said.
The real deal is sitting up in my closet waiting for my son to get home. I bought him a H&K SOCOM 45. He decided to take the Glock on this trip in case he had trouble getting his gun back to the states. The Glock is worth $500 the H&K is $2000.
Amen,
Good Stuff!!
If someone wants more after you put a Corbon 9mm 115gr HP in their chest a 45 isn't going to make that much difference.
My thoughts exactly.
The vic in this near-mugging probably wasn't 6'2"/300lb. :-)
Hey, if the FBI thinks the 10mm kicks too hard with full-tilt loads to be an effective self-defense cartridge, I'm inclined to agree.
The guys I know in Iraq don't bother with the pistol they just carry two more M-4 mags.
gotta love it
The man with the concealed carry permit is a walking gulag!
I love my 23 and I'm glad to hear this guy was well armed and cool thinking.
I suspect that's why you had deputy dawgs spraying rounds all over the place in that shooting of a driver last week: lots of .40s and .45s punching holes in the sky.
Believe I'll go with the CZ 75 nine. It's coming out in stainless steel and I like the weight for target-shooting. A .357 or 10 mm doesn't do any good if you can't handle controlled double-taps.
And I kept looking for 'By Whamo' on a Glock I handled the other day . . . anything other than 9, kaboom!
That, or because there were multiple officers shooting at a moving target in a neighborhood... just a thought. ;-)
That's EXACTLY what I use.
based on the rec.guns FAQ on the subject.
I couldn't give him Cor-Bon, however, as I wouldn't give someone +P ammunition without knowing what firearm it was going into.
Shot placement counts more than caliber. In most studies the .40 S&W has been considered deadlier than the 10mm.
The FBI phased out the 10mm when they noticed thet their 5'2" affirmative-action female agents and their 140-pound homo yuppie accountant agents couldn't grip or shoot the handgun properly.
For the rest of us, it's a great self-defense choice...but I may be biased ;^)
my Glock 23 will shoot anything-from the cheapest reloads to the Cor-bons, it has never had a single hiccup since I bought it new in '93. I estimate that I've fired at least 4000 rounds through it so far and it's more accurate than me.
Yes, some are prettier, some are costlier, but none will work any better. I sold my Beretta 92F(9mm) to get it as the Glock in .40S&W was more potent yet smaller and easier to carry.
Kahr makes an excellent firearm and so does SIG, but be prepared to dig deep to buy one.
The only firearm I might buy over a Glock would be H&K-if I ever win the lottery...
Since the 10mm shoots exactly the same bullet as the .40, only sitting on top of a larger powder charge, that statement makes no sense, whatsoever. It's like saying the .38 special is deadlier than the .357 magnum.
If you want to claim that more people have been killed with the .40 than with the 10mm, I will agree, since the .40 is much more prevalent.
You mean, as in Rev Jackson headed up to Dayton? I wish someone would just tell that faker to sit down and STFU.
