The importance of guns in democracy
Posted on 06/01/2005 10:56:36 PM PDT by roncougar68
Why are many republicans even afraid to stand up for gun rights? It is amazing to me that the judges in the our country can "interpret" the constitution in a manner that makes the common gun collector out to be a potential criminal. The criminals will get their guns just like they do their drugs. This is why I think gun ownership should be promoted. The founding fathers knew that the right to bear arms was the last defense to a really bad government. Our government officials are the ones trying to make it harder to own a gun. We need to stand out in defense of our rights, so that when you find out the reasoning behind the 2nd amendment, you are not a casualty of the lack there of.

I do the same, mostly, though I'm not against self-destruction if it means nailing an enemy.
McCain is a great example. I'd have no problem voting for a liberal dem just to punish him. Such joy is well worth the sacrifice, however counter-productive.
I mainly live for spite, one could say.

All during the 2000 campaign the Republicans here on FR claimed that a Republican govt. would repeal all the illegal Clinton-era gun laws.
Still waiting...

Your Question is why I call myself a "Liberarian".
I'm a "Bill of Rights" Republican, I register "Republican"; to Vote in that Party's Primaries. Libertarians don't have a Nebraska Primary.
My Wife, who has never owned a Gun, is an NRA Member. We have Good Neighbors, now. But when We retire, She wants ARMED Good Neighbors. We will retire to a "CCA State"!

The AWB can't be resurrected, The Sunset date passed and that's final.
The only way a AWB can be reinstated, is for new legislation to be introduced and passed by both houses of Congress. That chance is very slim, considering how weak the Democrats are in the Senate as well as the House, I doubt we will see any new legislation that calls for limiting our 2nd amendment rights

Thats cool and all, but I do not like how libertarians are fine with everything, as long as it makes you feel good.

GWB did allow the assault weapons ban to sunset.. And he clearly said that he'd sign a renewal if Congress approved it.
The thing is, we hear constantly that the Republicans are for less gun laws, but they haven't lifted one single finger to repeal any of the Clinton-era gun laws. Actions speak louder than words.

"Sounds like a classic DU profile. I could be wrong, as I said."
I think you are wrong. You were a newbie on 2-10-05. No one will argue the fact that there are disruptors and trolls here on FR.
I congratulate and welcome roncouger68 to Free Republic and do think he has a point about some Repubs not being more vigilant in preserving our 2nd Ammendment rights.

I concur with your comment!, Nothing about this post calls for the Viking Kitties to pounce on the newly registered FReeper. We need to hold back on condemning every newbie that happens to make his or her entrance via a Vanity

Correction.......Ammendment = Amendment
To: roncougar68
Actually, it is Democrats who are deemphasizing guns as an issue and pretending to be pro-gun. They have realized that being anti-gun costs them. Even the press seems to be cooling it a bit on anti-gun agitation because it riles up the conservative base. Since Republicans control Congress and the White House and have a de facto alliance with pro-gun Democrats, Republicans do not need to make noise, only move the program along.

Thanks. The time to worry is when we stop getting new members. Even Jim Robinson was a newbie way back when.

Your welcome!, I must get some sleep as well!
