....snip.......
KGET-TV in California reports that a white social worker who wanted to attend a meeting of the National Association of Black Social Workers was told he was not welcome because of his skin pigment.
Bakersfield, Calif., social worker Brain Parnell wanted to attend the New Orleans meeting along with five of his colleagues because he often works with minority children. When he tried to enter, however, he was turned away.
"I approached the registration table and was greeted by a very friendly fellow who looked me in the eye and said, 'Are you black?'" said Parnell. "I told him that I'm not and he told me that the conference was only for people who were black and so I wasn't able to register to attend the conference."
"I was shocked," said Parnell. "I was surprised that in 2005, I could be singled out because of the color of my skin."

I personally don't like the term 'reverse discrimation'. It seems to imply that 'discrimination' can only be applied to minorities. Really, it is just plan old discrimation based on skin color - absolutely no difference if it is applied to browns/blacks/whites.
Second paragraph: "Bakersfield, Calif., social worker Brain Parnell wanted to attend the New Orleans meeting along with five of his colleagues because he often works with minority children." For example, wouldn't it be helpful to understand WHY black social workers oppose inter-racial adoptions, rather than just agree or disagree?
I doubt that you would be refused entry. How you were treated once inside is another question. It raises an interesting question, though. If Denny's can be sued for alleged ethnic inhospitality, so can these places.
What about the Boy Scouts as a private org. and homosexuals who want to be scout leaders? Same deal, but it looks as if the gay lobby has more clout.
You do know New Orleans! If you weren't born there you will never be accepted in various circles. It's not racist it's inbreeding.
"Of course, the National Association of Black Social Workers have every right to restrict their membership, and their conference attendance, as they see fit."
No, that's not the point. The real point is that those who excluded this guy from their meeting would be the first to run screaming discrimination to the press at the first meeting of the 'National Association of White Social Workers'.
Just so I understand . . . .
This is from the creed of an association of government employees, and it encourages them to see their "primary obligation" as being to focus on the welfare of a specific section of Americans who are of their own ethnicity, rather than committing themselves to helping everyone?
Good thing they aren't racist, because if there was, they would only want to help their own kind.
OOPS!
I meant, good thing there isn't any racism in the organization, because if there was, the organization would choose to ignore the goal of helping everyone entitled to aid.
OOPS!
I meant, good thing . . .
Oh, forget it.
What is "Black consciousness"?
WEB Dubois was WHITE?
"Then why didn't the Boy Scouts of America have every right to restrict a homosexual from being a leader?"
Uh, they did, and do. You must have missed the court case that decided that.
Sure, let's not forget them if that's what rolls yer sox.
But you didn't answer my question. If it was an association of Armenian-American beet farmers and only Armenian-Amercian beet farmers were welcome, would it a topic of outrage here?
No, but he wasn't the only founder of the organization. But you knew that, right? ;)
WEB Dubois was not the first president of the NAACP; that was Moorfield Storey, who was white.
"Then why didn't the Boy Scouts of America have every right to restrict a homosexual from being a leader?"
Uh, they did, and do. You must have missed the court case that decided that.
I have called it that for over 30 years now.
Never understood black women in the Ms. America contest, but no white women in the Ms. Black America contest.
Never understood how there can be a Black Entertainment Television when a White Entertainment Television network would be hounded to death for racial undertones.
As a matter of fact, I've never understood any award (media, music, entertainment) that begins with "Black." What would happen if wd started handing out awards to White Journalists, White Actors, or White Music Artists?
