Hot political story of the day is out of the Volunteer State. Huge FBI corruption sting--dubbed "Operation Tennessee Waltz"--has resulted in the arrest of four state legislators, including the uncle of recently announced Dem U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford. State legislator John Ford apparently threatened to kill an undercover FBI agent. (Indictments posted in full at Newschannel 5.) Another arrested was state legislator Kathryn Bowers, chairman of the Memphis-area Democratic Party. There's one Republican in the bunch. More arrests expected.
I don't know this John Ford but I have known three other John Fords.
Must be something about the name that makes it synonymous with "SCUM."
It appears there are at least two seperate though related investigations going on, one the one that's nailed the Ford family's *Memphis Mafia*, particularly as to their looting of Tennessee's TennCare socialized health plan, with the other probe catching the Knoxville Republican in the net.
But there are said to be as many as a dozen legislators total involved, along with aides and former politicians yet to be named. I don't think the arrests are over, not by a long shot. And there may yet be additional aspects of these investigations to surface, some without limiting statutes of limitations.
My 87 year old mom loves that son and claims her uncle wrote it.
Well, he may still be hangin' in there in some of the Western time zone.... LA Times version *here*.
Answer: Yes. They like killing babies.
Not Chris MAtthews, but I heard Keith Olberman was getting a team right on it.
This guy has been touted as the savior of the Dem Party. Ha-Ha, fits right in doesn't he?
I have thought on that... I do think that most highly intelligent motivated people avoid politics. Most not all. There are a few intelligent people in government, I am afraid most of them are average or worse on the scale.
HOWEVER, Chrissey IS drooling over the botched Bolton vote.
Ford's excuse for threatening to kill a FBI agent?
Somehow the FBI agent is a racist, that card must be played.
Those of us who reside in Shelby County have to hope the trial is in Nashville. Ford might actually be found guilty of these charges by a reasonable jury up there.
If the trial is in Memphis, I will put a $500.00 bet up right now the man does "community service' at the MOST. Even if the prosecutor played a video of Ford threatening - or even killing - the FBI agent, he would never be incarcerated by a Memphis jury. NEVER.
The mindset among many blacks in this area is the "man" is out to put Ford down (or Mayor Herenton or any high profile black politician or businessman). Already on local news channels this afternoon, many black citizens were saying Ford's arrest was "unfair". Once the race card is played - as it invariably will be by Ford's lawyers and his entourage/posse/family - the will be enough for the great majority of most black jury pool candidates. Plus Ford being found guilty would = a win for whites, therefore he will be found innocent.
That is the point blank unvarnished truth. Hard to believe in 2005, but that is the reality.
The Ford machine is 100% untouchable in Memphis. Trust me on this. My fellow Shelby County Freepers can attest to the truth of my claim.
Well, I did mention this in posts on those threads! ;-)
Simple mistake.
That was his brother...Harold Ford, Sr. I believe.
Don't forget 99.7 WTN also has Steve Gill Mornings followed up by the best talk show host in the area, Phil Valentine with Johnny B.
They had fun with this all day!
Chris Newton - bigger RINO than McCain, Chafee, Snowe, Collins et al.
LOL....he'll probably keep running. He'll just have to look elsewhere for his campaign funding.
I heard there are some lobbyist also involved.
Steve and Phil rock! I'm a Rush addict, so I usually only listen to Steve... I'll flip over during commercial breaks and listen to Phil for a bit, though.
I solved that problem by being a Rush 24/7 member! I listen in the evening at home!
