Posted on 05/16/2005 9:54:06 AM PDT by ken5050

OK, folks..let's se what going to happen today as we move closer to the showdown in the Senate. Live, at 1 PM EST on C-span 2, "Searchlight" Reid is holding a presser to discuss judicial nomination. The Senate then convenes at 2PM, and as Majority Leader, Frist will make the opening statement. Then Reid will speak. Frist as pissed at Reid last week..for announcing a possible compromise on the Senate floor without FIRST telling him of it..and Frist has yet to speak about Reid's comments about FBI files. Should be fireworks..

Sounds like this was one of those 60 yard tosses to the endzone with time expiring.

almost...

It was more like 60 yard pass out of bounds after time had expired...

Specter would soon retire becuase of health resasons, and Casey would be appointed to the seat.

Why would a DEM replace Specter? Why not Toomey?

Well if the state Republican party would ever get smart enough to dump McCain I might start donating to it again... but I've sorta lost hope. Heck the Dem party can't even field candidates against him, if they can't, why would the Republicans?

Who cares if Casey is pro life if he will vote with Harry Reid on the nuclear option and prevent pro life judges from being confirmed.

Every dem senator that votes against cloture for pro life judges can't say they are pro life.

Let's call him "Horrid Harry" from now on!

The correct term is "Traitor Reid."

One possible problem scenario..In order to "preserve" the filabuster for the SC nominees..enough Dems will vote to invoke cloture on these 7 so that Frist will NOT have to ask for a vote on the rules change..If that does happen, it's a big win for the GOP, nd IMHO, Bush should immediately re-nominate Estrada

Friends, This battle is over. Reid had 'defeat' dripping from every word he spoke. We've won.

We are winning.

Take no prisoners.

I don't agree, Howlin. Powell believes in loyalty to the person he works for. If he cannot be loyal, he resigns, as he resigned his position as Joint Chiefs Chairman when Clinton became president.

Powell is trusted friend to the Bush family and like a son to Ronald Reagan.

The state party is too stupid to even keep me as a Precinct Committeeman, so yeah. This source of $$ has already dried up.

Not just a theory anymore; he's been badmouthing Bolton and didn't have the balls to say whether he should be the nominee except behind closed doors.

Why would democrat Rendell appoint a republican to fill Spector's senate seat? (sorry, if I'm dense on this). Our best Georgia senator, republican Coverdale died in office, and Demo governor appointed democrat Zell Miller to fill the seat. (We sure lucked out, didn't we?)

Libertarian and constitution parties

You can't really expect better from the Libertines but the Constitution Party voters commit treason every time they vote.

If my memory is correct, Zell was one of the ones who first pushed the idea that you don't need 60 for judges. That along with his soldier speech at the Convention is his legacy IMHO.

I dunno. Powell is first and foremost a politician. Politicians turn on their "friends" all the time. That's why they don't have any.
