Isn't it also where General Dynamics' Electric Boat Divisions lives? You're right... something sounds fishy there.

WTNH TV's website says the Groton sub base is on the list to be closed. That is bad news and will probably cause a severe blow to the whole state's economy. Rep. Rob Simmons will probably take a lot of heat, and be very vulnerable in next year's election now.

As it should be. Those bozos want to keep electing clowns like Snowe and Collins, then that is what they should get. Tell these two to get with the program!

Groton will not be closed, as Simmons ( vulnerable R in a blue state) succesfully battles to save it, thus helping him win reelection in 06.
Strategery.

Fox has the list and is releasing it in bits and pieces.

Just because they are on the list, does not mean they are going to close or be realigned. My uncle was in charge of this stuff in the US Air Force for 35 years.

We suffered through the closing of Loring Air Force Base in 1994.
My prayers go out to all the states that will lose their bases and their jobs. Pity. The illegals are going to take over the United States and we will have less protection. Anyone see the irony in this?

Closing Portsmouth if in the end actually happens is what NH gets for voting Democrat last election. Of course MoveON group targeted NH because of our very liberal voting regulations that allow same day registration without positive ID, just a declaration. In my town, hoards of cars with plates from Massachusetts were parked ostensibly voting as we do have a high seasonal population from MA but if they did vote they committed fraud.
Neither here or there however, Sununu is on record as not voting to end the Senate filibuster on judges. That alone should disqualify NH for government jobs by way of Portsmouth.

Sad, a great base, great location, great assignment.
