U.S. Catholics Now Batting for Illegal Aliens

In a statement issued Tuesday, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops announced that it will "add the voice of the Catholic Church" to the call for major immigration legislation, including a guest-worker program and a path to citizenship for illegal aliens in the United States. Cardinal McCarrick, the Archbishop of Washington said religious teachings justify aiding illegal aliens.

"We go right to the New Testament and say, him or her who is without sin cast the first stone," he said. "How many of us have not violated some laws, whatever they might have been -- either they're traffic laws or immigration laws or tax laws, something like that." Let’s see. If you violate traffic laws, you pay a fine and lose your license. If you violate tax law, you pay a fine, and possibly go to jail. But if you violate immigration laws, we grant you citizenship and confer all the benefits that our entitlement-loving, swollen bureaucracy can offer?

A friend e-mailed this to me yesterday and I was pretty surprised to read it.

Very disengenuous of the Church.

The last words in confession are "go and sin no more" not "if you repeat this sin you get a bye."

This is a numbers game for the shrinking USA Catholic Church.

Cardinal McCarrick's resignation is before B16 as we write.

May the Lord speed the hand that signs it!

If this attitude is taken to its logical extreme we could empty the prisons, and make life miserable for every law abiding citizen.

I wonder if they would feel the same way if all the illegals were Muslims or Jews?

Send all medical and education bills to the chrurch.

U.S. Catholics Now Batting for Illegal Aliens

That's a rather broad brush. Should say "U.S. Catholic Bishops Now Battling for Illegal Aliens". I think they're a bunch of fuzzy-headed liberals on this issue - just gives me another reason to not send them any of my $$$ during their annual fund drive (a.k.a. "Bishop's Lenten Appeal").

Send all medical and education bills to the chrurch.

That is a very good idea. If the Church wants them, the Church can sponsor them.

All too true. There isn't a single political issue except abortion (and what business do they have getting involved in political issues anyway) that they haven't solidly supported the extreme leftist views. Gun control - all for it. Increased taxes? They're your men. I'm a Catholic, and I get heartily sick of what should be a religious organization being another set of pompous shills for the doctrines of Marx and Hegel.

I taught at a Catholic high school for a while. There were several Mexican students, known to all the teachers to be illegal, who did not speak a word of English. Not only they did not pay the rather high tuition the school charged American students, they received an "allowance" for attending school. It fell on me to spend my lunch breaks translating whatever chapter they were working on (geometry, biology, history...)into Spanish so they could "keep up". It aggravated me to no end!

Funniest thing was the day the school decided to finally expel one of them, due to the large number of complaints from girls who had been harassed by that student. The Mexican boy came with his parents to meet with the principal, and before she could explain what she had called them to her office for, they told her through an interpreter that he was dropping out! The principal was about to have a stroke, shocked by the news. I could hardly keep a straight face until I got to my classroom and was able to laugh my head off!

I'm surprised he mentioned the New Testament and ignored the Old Testament.

Exodus 22:21 (New International Version)

"Do not mistreat an alien or oppress him, for you were aliens in Egypt.

God makes it pretty clear that aliens are people too...

The title is misleading. It should read "Leftist USCCB Now Batting for Illegal Aliens"

"Do not mistreat an alien or oppress him" Exodus 22:21

Fine, I'm all for not mistreating or oppressing people. But where does it say that we should give them the rights American citizens have? Hey, it took me years to become a citizen and I resent this open invitation to illegals!!! Put them in a comfortable van, bus or whatever is needed, and send them back to Mexico with a hug and a kiss!!!

Cardinal McCarrick's resignation is before B16 as we write.

It won't matter on this position. The entire US Conference of Bishops voted in favor of this stance at their last meeting in November of 2004.
