The National Republican Senatorial Committee deserves not a single cent for the job our senators are doing, and the RNC is so quiet that the Sprint Man thinks no one is there. My money will go the National Republican Congressional Committee because they represent what the party is about, and they aren't afraid to move on a contriversial issue.
Here's the NRCC'S homepage.
I am feel like I am spamming threads but here goes anyway. When Senators Allen, Inhofe, and Dr. Coburn spoke at the OK GOP Convention they made certain everyone understood that the judicial issue would not be brought up until some key bills had cleared the Senate which could take anywhere from 2-4 weeks or a little longer. These bills are being voted on this week which is why you see the RATs scrambling trying to make a deal.
After those bills were passed Senator Allen stated that it was the obligation of the Senators to uphold their oath in voting on this federal judicial nominations. At that time he stated along with my two Senators, "ALL" filibustered nominations would be brought to the floor and there will be a vote under the "constitutional" option. The word nuclear was NOT to be used in conjunction with judicial nominees.
Time after time I have seen the Republican leadership tell the media and Americans it is not a "nuclear" option but a "constitutional" option, but it seems to have done no good as journalists/news readers along with some on here still use the word "nuclear" -- they pay no attention to what is said but sure do love to bash.
Seems reasonable to me that you get key bills passed before going after the judicial nominations but looks like some people are believing what the media and McCain has to say about a compromise -- this is a test for the Supreme Court nominees and they will not back down on the nominations according to aides I have talked to in the last few days. They know what is at stake. Instead of bashing Republicans like I have seen on here recently based on media/McCain accounts, maybe what you should be doing is giving them support and telling the Republican Senators you are supporting them in judicial fights and will take no for an answer.
What I keep seeing is people withholding funds from RNC and NRSC -- wonder how many really donate (sarcasm) like the people that say they are not voting for a Republican again on here. What good does withholding money do? All you are doing is giving the DemocRATs support because you are showing them their obstruction is working because Republicans are getting harmed not them.
Every time Sen Frist has spoken he is all about not backing down. Karl Rove weighed in with the same but on here some of you believe the RATs, the media, and McCain. What gives? If they back down on nominees, then go after them but right now all you have is heresay being carried by the LA Times for one and other analysts who I have to wonder about their agendas. What do you want Frist and others to do -- telegraph their plans or better yet go on TV and give the RATs step by step details on how they plan to handle this on the floor of the Senate? Why not just tell the RATs everything ahead of time because Freepers are disgusted and want to know what is going on because the media says the Republicans are caving. We can lose five Republicans and Cheney can break the tie.
Start calling your Republican Senators and tell them you support the "CONSTITUTIONAL" option for approving President Bush's judicial nominees. Call McCain and the DemocRAT Senators if they are from your State and give them an earfull of why they are ignoring the "CONSTITUTION" and their "OATH of OFFICE" in not advising/consenting to the President's nominees on the floor of the Senate without their quasi filibuster. At the same time tell them you will work to defeat them in 2006 if they are up for reelection. Quit bashing Republican Senators that are for the "Constitutional" option and lumping them all together.
My more than two cents -- now going outside to do some lawnwork -- hope this did some good but the way things have been going on here lately, I have my doubts.
For those folks in Nebraska -- time now to get a good candidate and send Nelson and his compromise back to Nebraska.
I called the NRSC and the RNC this AM to express my views, and to ask them to strike me from their roles. Here are their respective numbers:
RNC: 202.863.8500
NRSC: 202.675.6005
They can always make up their donations from foreign donors. At least we can hold on to our own money.
Somewhere between the elections in November and the present, the Republican leaders of the Senate have been neutered into demokrat'z eunuchs............But, like a person who is a Chicago Cubs fan, hope springs eternal. If Frist, et al, would just do what we elected them to do in the first place, then the dems would be shocked, for a while. What's the use of supporting the same ol' same ol' with our hard earned CASH?......................Thank You, Sir! May I have another?......
Yep, I'm sending every business reply envelope back with the message "contact me when you get some judges confirmed."
I'm sure the Dems are pleased at this strategy.
Relax. The Senate GOP has to choose the time and place to stage this fight... my advice is to wait until there's a Supreme Court vacancy, and then force the Rats to start a filibuster. Then the GOP can drop the hammer on 'em.
Of course, if the GOP Mod Squad colludes with the Rats to avert a return to constitutional norms, then they should be defunded.
We have waited 4 years for some of these judges. Taking care of other business wore thin long ago. There is always some reason why we can't possibly do it now. If you want believe their BS, then so be it, but even if they were to move today, it won't happen of course, I would still be very upset with the republican senators. I'm also sick of being ignored when it's their conservative base that has made the real difference in so many elections. If you want hold their hand and sing Kumbiya, that is your business. I'm ready for the Battle Hymn of the Republic!
Amen dat.
What ever happened to President Bush's well earned Political Capitol from last election???
I told them to take me off their mailing list and printed out some charts from this:

I'm sending it today. :)
Then please explain why we worked so damn hard to add seats in the senate? What exactly has changed in this new congress? Why is the President's Energy Package still languishing in the senate after 4 years? Why can't Bolton be confirmed as UN Ambassador by a Republican Chair and his cohorts? Why can't deserving jurists, some of which have waited 4 years, get an up or down vote in this newly expanded republican senate majority? NO RELAXING! If you are ok with their dithering that has lasted years, then so be it, but I'm done until they recognize the importance of conservatives to the party. Talk is cheap, and I refuse to donate to them for all this lip service with no action.
AMEN BUMP!!
Until recently there weren't enough conservatives in the senate to field a majority, and that's why it was a graveyard for most of the conservative legislation sent over from the house. It has literally taken ten years just to get to this point.
Now we stand on the cusp of a hugh fight over imposing a return to the constitution -- something the Rats will vehemently oppose. The so-called Mod Squad in the GOP has been stalling (read: waiting for the biggest piece of pork largesse) on getting aboard this train. I think we've got them now.
I got one of those survey-fundraiser letters from Bill Frist. I didn't bother to reply to it. I just threw it in the trash.
A Constitutional Travesty
Why the Filibuster Must Go
April 25, 2005
Over two hundred years ago, a man who wrote under the name of Publius was hunched over his desk one evening. He was attempting to convince New Yorkers to ratify the proposed United States Constitution. After a moment of thought, he dipped his quill into the ink and wrote the following: The President is to nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to appoint . . . judges of the Supreme Court.
Publius, of course, was the pen name used by three of our nations founders when they wrote the eighty-five newspaper essays now known as the FEDERALIST PAPERS. Among the authors was Alexander Hamilton, who wrote essay number 76, from which I just quoted. These fading words on a yellowed document reveal that what a handful of U.S. senators are doing today is a constitutional travesty.
Democratic senators have for months been filibustering judges chosen by President Bush to serve on the federal courts. If the full Senate were allowed to vote on these fine judges, they would easily be confirmed. But a hostile minority is using the filibuster tactic to prevent such a votepurely for ideological reasons.
In so doing, they are behaving as if the Senate is supposed to have equal say with the president in deciding who sits on the court. That is nonsense.
The Constitution could not be clearer. The nomination is made by the president alone. The Senate is to give its advice and consentnot demand ideological purity. Alexander Hamilton explained the intent in his essay number 76. It is not likely, he wrote, that [the Senates] sanction would often be refused where there were not special and strong reasons for the refusal.
The advice and consent clause, Hamilton continued, was intended to provide a check upon a president who would, say, appoint his brother, or engage in favoritism, or reward family connections or personal benefactorsnothing more.
And yet, today a Senate minority is using the filibuster to prevent a vote on highly qualified judges, like Bill Pryor or Miguel Estrada, an able Hispanic lawyer who was nominated and had to be withdrawn, and Janice Brown, an African-American judge from California. And the grounds for opposition is not what the constitutional framers intended; its ideological. They just do not like what these judges believe.
This filibuster should offend us for another reason. Americas founders, informed by their Christian understanding of the Fall, provided for a system of checks and balances so that no one branch of government would have power over the other. But today a minority in the Congress is holding hostage judges named to the court. This is a fundamental assault on an independent judiciary and, thus, a violation of the balance of powers.
The Senate is debating this week whether to change its rules so that a simple majority could confirm a judge. That would prevent nominees from being filibustered. This is the only way we will have judges who interpret the law instead of making it up.
Please pick up your phone and call your senators: Jam the Capitol switchboard. The rules must be changed to avoid the hijacking of the Constitution. And then, ask your neighbors to do the same. Let them know that the unfit characters Hamilton described two centuries ago are not President Bushs nominees, but those who are trying to upend the Constitution.
