I haven't won since REAL QUIET
I haven't won since the county faire. I picked a little mule, first time out, over the heavy favorite. No one picked him because he was so small. But he was racy, from a Thoroughbred farm (one of those "accidents?") I won $90.
The money was gone by the time we got home, because I had to buy everyone dinner, the gas, and then they wanted a flat of strawberries (sold right from the field). What a bunch of sponges..
Awwwww....
LOL. Well due to the fact that I bet on just about every horse in the race, my winnings from my Giacomo bet amount to about breaking even. If Afleet Alex would have finished second, then I would be ahead. Oh well, at least I get my money back.

Ha ha! I recycle cans twice a year, then go to the satellite joint. I used to bet all the longshots, and always lost it all and then about 30 more. So now I just bet horses that are between 6 and 12-1. Then I break even and curse myself for not picking longshots.
LOL. I hadn't gone to the races even once in about a year, so I made up for it- all in one day and all in one race ;-)
Betting on horses that are between 6 and 12 to 1 seems like a good idea. I've seen a lot of horses win at those odds on the replay show.
The vig is 50 points per day, bring lots of cash. Tell the rest of them they are on the same payment schedule. G
PS: Always trust Grandma - that's my rule!

Thanks for the ping, Hair. I did get to see the Derby, but I haven't had time to post here. I had a feeling that it was going to be Guaciamo. (sp) because he was such a long shot, and I have a soft spot for the underdog. However, part of me wishes that it was the favorite, because I would love to see a Triple Crown winner in my lifetime.
Not me! I won $500!! YAYAYAY!!!
Actually, I placed a Trifecta Box ($2.00) bet for Afleet Alex , Belamy Road and Bandini (for myself). I also placed a $5.00 WIN bet for Alex Afleet.
For my mom, (her picks), I placed a $2.00 Trifecta Box bet for Sun King, Giacomo and Closing Argument.
While I was at the OTB, I also decided - at the spur of the moment - to place a longshot bet for her - hoping that I'd get a decent payout as an extra Mother's Day gift if it came in. I chose to place a $10 WIN bet on Giacomo.
The rest is history. It was AWESOME!! We had our drinks and were watching the race screaming "Go Baby Go" (I can't help it!!) and at the end of the race I said to Mom: "You won!!"<[> My Mom hadn't bet on Giacomo to WIN so I told hewr: "Oh, I decided to bet on him to WIN as a Surprise! Happy Mother's day!!"
It was great!! So Besides the cute little butter holder (to keep butter soft and fresh at room temp.) I already got her - I also got to give her $500!! : )
Thanks Giacomo and Mike Smith! ;)
I so love horse racing! I can't wait till the Preakness!
Me too. Congratulations on your winning bet. I had a bet on Giacomo too, but, I only broke even because I bet too many horses.
I can't wait for the Preakness either. I refer to the first Saturday in May and the rest of the Triple Crown races as "the most wonderful time of the year" ;-)
Take a swig?
Fall on your face? (J/K)
>>>LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Giacomo, a 50-1 shot, defied the odds and won the $2.4 million Kentucky Derby in a gigantic upset Saturday, running down a game Afleet Alex in the final strides and generating a huge payoff. <<<

D'oh.
The luckiest bettor I know of may also be the unluckiest.
There apparently was a patron (I will be no more specific than that) who used one of our terminals to make a 'quick pick' on the superfecta (the quick pick feature is basically a random number generator). The $1 ticket he received was indeed a winning superfecta bet (which paid about $865,000 for the $1 bet). Like so many of our patrons, he proceeded to get stinking drunk on Derby day, and LOST the ticket. His claim was indeed verified after researching the story. A $1 winning ticket was purchased around the time and at the machine he claimed.
State rules dictate that he cannot be paid without presenting the ticket, and there is no other traceable info that would indicate any ownership of this ticket.
There is still a possibility his claim will be honored, but he also may have to hire a lawyer and the courts may ultimately decide if he gets paid, or if the state gets the money (uncashed tickets go to the state after a period of time elapses).
I suddenly don't feel so bad about losing $175.
