Archbishop Hughes snubs Loyola, "Landrieus"
The Times-Picayune ^ | Friday, May 06, 2005 | Bruce Nolan

Posted on 05/06/2005 3:34:34 AM PDT by chemicalman

Archbishop Alfred Hughes announced Thursday he will not attend commencement ceremonies at Loyola University next week because of the Catholic university's decision to award the Landrieu family an honorary degree in part for their exemplary public Catholicism.

Two of Moon and Verna Landrieu's children, U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu and Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, support abortion rights in their public lives, with reservations.

More good news! I think the election of the new Pope has given a spine to some other members of the heirarchy.

It is good to see some of the Catholic church leaders finally emboldened enough to take a stand against the pro-infanticide CINOs.

Let me get this straight. Loyola is a Catholic school and the Archbishop has to protest by not attending the graduation. You might think the Landrieu's might be the one's not attending.
Louisiana has and is becoming more and more conservative, but they still haven't shaken off Moon and his liberal clan.

Loyola is a Jesuit school. I would hate to use the term Catholic.

If I remember right, (and this was growing up in New Orleans before I converted Catholic) Loyola has been pretty much on the liberal agenda side for a long, long time...

Exactly.

In 2002 under the presidency of the Rev. Bernard Knoth, the law school honored Kim Gandy, an alumna who, as the president of the National Organization for Women, was one of the nation's foremost abortion-rights advocates.

Our daughter graduated from the Business School in 2002. I wasn't aware of this.

Fr. Knoth left the school under scandalous circumstances.

These colleges and universities need to figure out that it's not a good idea to honor pro-abortion maniacs whether they have some remote claim to being "Catholic" (in name only) or not. There are plenty of distinguished faithful Catholics who do not go against church teachings who could be honored. Frankly, it's absurd that these loyal and faithful Catholics are passed over for the liberal Kennedy types and "in name only" crowd.

Then, last year, Loyola students staged the "Vagina Monologues," a blunt, provocative play exploring themes of feminine sexuality and violence toward women.

Kick them out. Kick all of these scandal-ridden Jesuit factories out of the faith.

Thanks for that link. I just sent them a quite detailed comment on the state of Catholic colleges in general and Jesuit colleges in particular.

Sir SuziQ attended Loyola in NO for a semester back in 1974, but we sure wouldn't send our kids there today!
