Analyst Charged With Passing Secret Info (Info on Iran was passed to Israel by Pentagon employee)
The Associated Press - The Free Press ^ | 5/4/05

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The FBI arrested a Pentagon analyst Wednesday on charges that he illegally passed classified information about potential attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq to employees of a pro-Israel group.

Larry Franklin, 58, of Kearneysville, W. Va., turned himself in Wednesday morning, FBI spokeswoman Debra Weierman said. He was scheduled to make an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Virginia later Wednesday, Weierman said.

Franklin, who specialized on Iran and Middle Eastern affairs, allegedly gave the information to two people not entitled to receive it at a luncheon meeting at a restaurant in Arlington, Va., in June 2003, the Justice Department said in a statement. The people at the lunch were employees of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a law enforcement official said on condition of anonymity because they are not identified in court papers.

FBI agents twice searched AIPAC offices as part of the investigation about whether Israel improperly obtained classified U.S. information on Iran. They also have interviewed two AIPAC employees about whether Franklin gave them classified information that wound up in Israel's hands.

AIPAC said it gave the FBI files related to those same two employees, who previously were identified - Steve Rosen, the director of research, and Keith Weissman, deputy director of foreign policy issues.

Neither still works for the group.

AIPAC declined to comment Wednesday.

It was not immediately clear how the information related to Iran.

What protection do we provide ISrael?

We give them no protection. Israel uses her OWN SOLDIERS to defend their country.

As for aid, I support ending all foreign aid to all COUNTRIES!

You complain about us giving money to Israel and protection but ignore that is nothing compared to what we give Muslim countries.

If Israel didn't need U.S. aid to survive, they wouldn't ask for U.S. aid. There's a simple reason why Israel "needs" U.S. aid to survive these days -- because they want to maintain a European-style welfare state while at the same time maintaining a war-time level of military preparedness at all times. It is impossible to do this unless you have a substantial flow of cash and other financial assistance from an outside benefactor.

What a way to twist history. First off in 1973 it was Nixon and that self hating JEw Kissinger who begged Israel not to attack first. Israel listened foolishly and it cost Israel greatly, still Israel won and was prepared to Finish Egypt and Syria off, but once again gave into American Pressure.

It's kind of funny how Israeli history (according to so many Americans here on FreeRepublic) is filled with all these "traitors" and "self-hating Jews," and yet every government (left, right, and all over the map) seems to have the same problem of "listening foolishly" to things that are supposed to be such threats to the nation's existence. What the hell is going on here?

Israel got NOTHING for giving back the Siani. They gave up oil reserves THEY DEVELOPED, and now have to deal with tunnels built across the Sinai that transport weaposn to PLO and Hamas.

Again -- why is it that every generation of Israeli leadership is so "stupid?"

As I said before if you were listening I oppose US AID because without Aid Israel would cut back on their socialist policies, and they begun to already, but without US AID that rate of cutting socialist programs would excelerate.

Just like America has self hating Liberals and RINOS, Israel has the same problem just like any Democratic State.

Again -- why is it that every generation of Israeli leadership is so "stupid?"

Just like almost every generation of American leadership has stupidity. Currently America has leadership that does nothing to cut back on government spending and just goes further into debt. America has serious economic problems of their own, just like Israel does too.

And American leadership could learn a few things from Israel like building a WALL along the Border to stop the invasion of illegal aliens who gobble up American welfare and Medical Care!

Son, you need a history reality check as to who protects Israel from the Arabs.

I thought the term cashcow with a rifle was rather fitting.

"The Israelis may be our allies, but they are not us, and they will act in their own best interests, which don't always coincide with our best interests."

...and they should act in their own best interests, just as we should not impose our will on them.

This is exactly why when even our own government has given them info which they have used to help arm some of our adversaries it isn't a pleasant prospect.

They do not act, or need to act as one with us (any more than UK does, for example) so we need to be protected from people like this who don't comprehend the system or don't want to and do damage to both governments.

If an individual's primary allegiance is to Israel they should give up their citizenship here and move to help in Israel. We have a huge number of people who cannot fathom this.

You have a solid tagline, by the way.

Precisely so. I elect a government to act in my best interests, the Israelis elect a government to act in their best interests, and so forth. I don't necessarily blame them for doing so - that's what governments are for, after all. But one thing I do know is that deciding that our interests are the same as their interests is definitely above the pay grade of some reservist bird colonel.

You have a solid tagline, by the way.

Why, thank you. Credit to the author, of course ;)

The bottom line is they value their people more than ours, and they value their security and interests more than the US's.

As they should. And we should, of course, value our people more than theirs - with that in mind, they don't (and shouldn't) get the keys to all the files. This is simple common sense, it seems to me.

Sorry, but there are only two nation states I fully support for foreign aid. Britain and Israel. Cut off foreign aid to every other nation though

Son, you dont know where my loyalty lies.

Look at history and it shows if not for US intervention, Israel time after time would have crushed the cowardly Arab Muslims!

The US by stopping Israel is not only jeopordizing Israeli security, but American Security because it sends the wrong message to Arab Muslim savages that seek to destroy this country.

Flash paper ignites instantly....don't smoke while reading your secret instructions or poof!

My point was, there are only two rules in espionage.

It's sunny and warm with pleasant breezes on the Big Island. A wonderful change from last month. And except for having to go to work tomorrow, I'm enjoying it.

So is flash paper real? Or a joke?

I've added the island to my wish list for trips.

But you'd be screaming bloody murder if Israel had info on 9/11 that they didn't give to the US..

I guessed you missed the reports concerning the Israelis set up to videotape the attack on the WTC Towers before the first impact.
