Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

Evidently it takes neither skill nor effort on their part; it seems to be genetic.
I'm an optimist so I'll continue to blame environmental factors before I believe that they've been cursed genetically.
The irony of a taunting vulgarian calling for more politeness is side-splittingly funny.
Lots of belly laughs at FR today.
Well, as much as I've enjoyed this evening, I have to go to bed now. Not for any particular reason except that I have to sleep sometime so I can wake up at some point. And since it's after 3 AM, I thought it might as well be now. I've greatly enjoyed this thread, though. We'll have to do this again sometime. And, Howlin, let me know when the Hellions next meeting is. I'll bring my witchcraft book this time :)
I've been out of town and have been reading some of the manufactured holiness and judgmentalism from people who are so needy that they have to affect a moral superiority to the rest of us who enjoy a light-hearted JOKE.
Displaying the way that repulsive people are repulsive is an entirely different matter than the shock at hearing something totally unexpected coming forth from a icon of classiness.
Malkin herself didn't use the word. There was plenty more objectionable about what Malkin put in that post than the use of the f-word.
You must be trying to miss the point on purpose. For your benefit, I will presume that.
Looks like we're gonna need it. Nite.
Many have been here for a long time. Others have come and gone over the years. In many other politcal battles, you've probably trusted them as a brother and considered them a friend. But they or people just like them have been here since day one. This forum really hasn't changed in people make up since it's inception. Maybe the actual people (names) have come and gone, but the makeup of the people has basically remained stable.
You only need to hit the post button once.
That was VERY well said! The "more angry than conservative" crowd seems to have permeated the conservative sites on the internet, and FR, unfortunately, has not escaped.
They did, but that's not all they did for North Korea.
The only thing that should have been omitted was the "horse joke", imo.
Carolyn
Laura's joke was what it was...George was a city slicker turned cowboy....Lotsa those around.
Anyways, this was an adult event. Bless the media...they sure know what to put on the air.....If someone can be offended and the Bush folks "hammered", they'll do it. What's new!!
Dear Michelle,
The mere fact that you are too ignorant and/or priggish to understand a joke does not, in fact, make it obscene. Absence of teats does not equal masturbation, and absence of humor does not equal moral superiority.
Now, please excuse me. I am a Desperate Housewife who spends too much time on the Internet. I need to get a life. A table is waiting for me at Chippendale's. I plan to hoist a few brews whilst I stuff a few dollar bills down some gay guy's thong.
Cheers!
LOL! Well said.
Thanks for posting that. I had not read the whole thing, and I didn't see it on tv. In context, the whole thing was just right.
Some people are so guilty of taking everything so seriously and so literally. IT WAS A JOKE! Having a sense of humor is one of the things that serarates us from the the fundamentalists like the Taliban. We can joke about things without having to be afraid of getting shot. If you think it was not funny, so what! that is your opinion. But, do not try to make those of us who did find it funny feel like we are some inferior beings that should be scraped from the sole of your self righteous shoes.
I thought it was hysterically funny so I hope you aren't thinking I'm one of those with no sense of adult humor.
