Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

ROFLMAO.
I'm not pissed. I think you guys are funny, in a confirm-every-uptight-stereotype-of-the-religious right kind of way.
I'm simply floored of the number of people who have never heard the expression "He's so dumb he'd try to milk a bull".
You guys are blowing this out of proportion and giving it a Frankenstien life of its own.
We're just not dressed sharply enough to make it onto the Country Club, you know. Oh, sure, we can vote with them on that fine November day, but the rest of the time we're supposed to be out sweeping the floor or knocking the dew off the grass.
Look, I'm not attacking the First Lady for anything. I'm just not going to sit here and let folks get beat up for differing on how appropriate a joke was. I am crtainly not going to hold my tongue when we have folks being called "Taliban" on here and gutter-ball stuff like that. More than anything else I'm bothered by the fact that some of you can't just let those folks have their say. It takes a lot of hits to sink the ship.
What a ridiculous statement.
I disagree totally.
Count me among those who agree that it is spot "on".
The local Taliban is not too far off the "...prevention of vice and promotion of virtue" posturing of the bible-quoters.
Another excellent post, polly. I'm so glad you're here!
I've read every single post, including your Taliban comments. Nice try at covering your tracks though. I should have said you don't like Christians who have different opinions than you. You're the asshat who said FR has been invaded by the Taliban. Don't say things like that if you feel the need to excuse them later.
LOL. You have a way with words.
You're right. It's the Laura-worshippers who've gone hysterical, not the posters who think she showed poor judgment.
The way some are screeching, you'd think that we'd pointed out their idol had feet of clay. (Oops, I guess that's what we've gone and done. Horrors.)
Look y'all, I'm going to say it again: Laura Bush is lovely to look at, and a vast improvement over her predecessor.
But she's not "perfection," as I've seen some of her idolizers ludicrously claim! (Nobody is, and I certainly don't claim to be, so spare the 'holier-than-thou' epithets.) She made a bad mistake in judgment and discretion. And yes, we all do that from time to time -- but then, we all aren't First Lady of the United States. And no, it's not the end of the world.
I don't think that will happen. I joined the party during the Clinton admin. I consider myself pretty middle of the road republican...I disagreed with you about Terri Schiavo (my reasons weren't religious), but agree with you on this one. It's common knowledge that there's a conservative Christian arm of the republican party...democrats often try to exploit it (when they're not trying to pander to it). That didn't stop me, or many other people I know from joining because the dems have their extremists, too. Frankly, being a part of a political party where a small percentage of the members are very conservative moral authority types is far better than being associated with a party whose radical wing is made up of moonbat, paranoid, conspiracy theorist socialists.

The whole speech can be seen in post #46.

Well... I do know a horse's ass when I see one.
They usually barge in on the party as a new guest, speaking too loudly, and being full of himself.
Or my personal theory. For one reason or another, I think FR has become a beacon to the truly angry. Look at the marriage threads populated with men from their early 20's to their mid 50's sharing a common bond: Absolute hatred of women. These folks are more angry than they are conservative.
Check out the comments on any Schiavo thread. You'll see some spirited debate on whether Greer should be shot or hung, with a few lunatics chiming in that they're praying to God Almighty for a 10 generation family curse that will be ------ up his descendents 200 years from now. These folks are more angry than they are conservative.
Next, hop on over to any thread that touches upon evolution or intelligent design. By post 50, it devolves in mindless attacks on anyone with any doubts or skepticism what-so-ever. These folks are more angry than they are conservative.
Your next destination should be the threads that mention anything remotely dealing with immigration. Now don't get me wrong, like any of the subjects I've listed above, there is a legitimate debate, and that's not going on here. Instead, you can often be treated to angry comments about how this illegal, or that illegal, or whole bunches of them should be killed. I don't envy the mods their job deleting these posts as quickly as they pop up. Again, these folks are more angry than conservative.
Last but not least, you have the nanny threads like this one. You'd swear some of these posters were Mary Poppins with PMS and jock itch. Still prudish as can be but pissed off at the whole damned world. Nothing can please these dour humorless types. Why? Because these people are more angry than conservative.
Verizon is rolling out FiOS in certain communities across the U.S.
It's fiber optics, 30mbps high-speed internet. It's unreal.

Hey, "it" has to be fed, you know?
I haven't felt the need to excuse the remarks and stand by them. 100%.
The radical 1-2% of the base is trying for classic over-reaching and it's not a pretty sight. It's humorless and petty and at times, what with the name calling of the First Lady a whore and worse, it's ugly.
I wasn't offended morally, I was offended politically. It was such a transparent attempt to suck up to the leftie Hollywood crowd, to show them "I'm hip, not like those bumpkins who voted us into office." Trouble is, the liberals will still hate the Bushes, no matter how hard the Bushes might try to make the liberals love them.
