Laura leaves 'em laughing, gasping (Not a very family-values-type speech..very risque: David Korn)

Who knew? First lady Laura Bush took over the podium from her husband at Saturday night's annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner and knocked 'em dead, keeping Washington's most powerful politicos in stitches as she worked the ballroom like a seasoned stand-up comic.

CUT

Although Washington's movers and shakers laughed at Mrs. Bush's performance, some in the press woke up with a Sunday morning hangover and began to criticize her monologue as immodest at best and downright bawdy at worst.

"Laura Bush cracks risque jokes at the White House Correspondents' dinner," sniffed Agence France-Presse. CNN reporter Elaine Quijano, who attended the dinner, also apparently had her sensibilities scarred by some of the first lady's quips.

"In some respects, I think for some folks it was a little shocking because she kind of crossed the line a little bit in some people's minds," she said.

"It was very risque," the Nation's David Korn said yesterday on Fox News. "I was wondering what the social conservatives and James Dobson had to say about all these jokes that were laced with sexual innuendo. Not a very family-values-type speech. I'm not sure I want to explain a lot of those jokes to my 4-year-old."

Eyebrows were raised by the first lady's bit about the president's ranching skills, which Mrs. Bush said her husband lacked because the elite schools he attended, Andover and Yale, "don't have a real strong ranching program."

She then added: "He's learned a lot about ranching since that first year when he tried to milk the horse. What's worse, it was a male horse."

The crowd howled. The joke, a female Associated Press reporter said, "had women giggling in the bathroom."

Well, all I can say is thank God you're here to judge us all.

This from someone casting harsh judgement on this thread at those she disagrees with.

LOL...I haven't been invited, but I'd be proud to serve. Although, I'd not be very good at "back up" as I pretty much keep my head down hoping that someone else will post what I think.

You turned your brilliant switch off, huh?

We can't change anything if we can't win anything. We win when we convince the middleground we are not (all) whackjobs. When we do, collectively, win, the whackjob needlebutts come out of the woodwork to negate the gains. Isn't there a Christian Party, or some other organization you can degrade and ridicule by your participation?

I say again, needlebutts are as bad as liberals, just one of 'em favors a fatherland while the other favors a motherland.

Forum rules prohibit me from saying what I think of you.

And you have the nerve to criticize the first lady for a few harmless jokes when inferring if it was not for the forums rules you would let loose a whole stream of obscenities. Talk about hypocritical.

You didn't just "point it out" dirtboy........you made an association between what Laura said, and what the show promotes, and it just isn't there.

You are free to conclude whatever you want, and bash away at this lovely lady if it makes you feel superior.

I'm just not falling for it.

As I said before, we KNOW she's moral. We don't know that about any of you self righteous ones who are bashing her..........

Bye, now.

Me, too. I needed a few laughs since I have been feeling down this spring since our younger daughter died last year. For some reason this year has been tougher than last spring. Guess we were still in shock last year.

Isn't the show mainly an after hours fantasy for women?

I think you're right. As far as I can tell, it is a prime time version of soap opera stuff.

Yet the comment you made that prompted me to make my point was about a post not addressed to you.

Well, sure. Once in a while, one catches my eye.

As to feeling love, it appears to be you making hostile commentary to others, not the other way around.

Please quote anything of mine to illustrate that point of yours. I'd want to know if I posted any "hostile commentary" where it wasn't completely justified. Generally, I try kindness first. If that doesn't work, I too often resort to tit for tat.

Unfortunately, kindness sometimes goes by the wayside when the incoming, baseless accusations start flying.

Ah, the other self-appointed thread marital counsellor chimes in with yet more nonsense. Who said I was gonna use profanities? But, then again, you've been putting words in my mouth and analyzing my wife and my marriage quite a bit.

Uh, lemme get this straight. She references Desperate Housewives. We know what that show is about.

But I'm the one making the association.

Maybe we have a better sense of humor than some of these people.

Or a purer mind despite what is being said about us.

Oh, wasn't I suppose to say anything, being a woman and all?

Do you really think you can pontificate on these thread like you have been and none of the rest of us can do the same thing from our perspective?

It's not an "ad hominem" when it's the TRUTH.

Oh, OK. Calling a poster "stupid" is not ad hominem -- because Howlin says so.

Another stunning example of the kind of logic NEA-public-school-educrats teach our children.

Oh grow up. David, James, your wives aren't married to Mr. Excitement either.

The truth of that is the burr under their saddles (!) to make them criticize Laura Bush. Fellahs, please rethink your burrs and saddles before spouting off about the president's wife.

I agree. There's enough stuff in the world to be concerned about. I think they have a great relationship and have a lot of fun together.

If David Korn even has a four-year-old and allows him to watch White House Correspondents' Association dinners, what does that say about David Korn? I can't imagine that age group as a target demographic for such events.

Milking a bull/stallion/ram is more of a dumb city dude joke than a sexual one. Any child old enough to know the difference would find it funny without having a pornographic thought in their head. I've seen enough of those dinners to recognize more of a roast than toast atmosphere. Mrs. Bush made fun of herself, Mrs. Cheney and Sec. Rice, and it was hilarious because of the improbability of the jokes. Those hypocrites in print were laughing mighty hard at the time for all their next-day indignation.

Pardon me if got it wrong but what forum rules would then be breaking if told the person what you thought if they were not violent or obscene.
