Thunder Over Louisville is the Kentucky Derby Festival's annual kickoff to the two week long celebration leading up to the Kentucky Derby. Each year KDF and it's sponsors-Chase Bank, Caesar's Indiana, Ford and UPS-put on an airshow and the largest fireworks display in the United States, dwarfing even New York's July 4th fireworks show.
As part of the airshow, military aircraft from all branches of the Armed Forces demonstrate their capabilities. This year these included the F-16, F-15, F-18 fighters, Blackhawk helicopters, and B-2 and B-52 bombers among others. It's typical of airshows across the nation to include military aircraft and each year 500,000 people come to the Louisville Waterfront to enjoy this event. But of course you can always rely on the Leftists of LPAC to protest anything so once again they gathered downtown; this time to protest the involvement of military aircraft in Thunder Over Louisville. Well it can't be an LPAC protest without a good FReeping, ably handled as usual by the Louisville Protest Warriors.
FReepers in attendance: SheWolf, skinkinthegrass and yours truly.
We showed up about 2:45PM at the corner of 4th and Kentucky Streets across from Memorial Park where LPAC would be gathering at 3:30 so we had the jump on them. Of course my weapon in the FReep arsenal is OLD GLORY herself of which I had a brand spanking new one just for this. Gorgeous! LPAC shows up with their new signs "Silence Over Thunder", "Warplanes Are Not Family Entertainment" and "No WMD's Over Louisville". Pathetic. In the pics you'll see our signs which included the old FReeping standby: "Pacifists Are Feedom's Parasites". My favorite and the one I held the whole time: "Terrorists Hate Our Fighter Jets Too". Ha! What a laugh!
We were having a good time, had talked with some media, were listening to our boombox with our patriotic music soundtrack and just watching LPAC's moment of silence across the street when the airshow 10 blocks away above the Ohio River commenced with an F-16 roaring by on full afterburners! We started cheering, WooHoo-ing, making Rebel yells and hollering at LPAC "That's the sound of FREEDOM, Baby!". Poetic justice if you ask me. a Veteran on a Harley even showed up and started revving his engine right in front of those clowns, giving them a little "Thunder" of his own which personally I thought was pretty funny, but they didn't look like they were enjoying his opinion of them.
After the media blitz by LPAC all this week to draw attention to their protest only 50 showed up. We had 6. The letters to the editor this week heavily criticized them for planning their protest and we got out and held a successful counter to their event that went outstanding. When they left they looked rather cold and dejected and we were just laughing and felt like we'd had a great time. Man, I love this country!
This is HILARIOUS! My KY Guard unit down here in MS is howling after I read this FReep to them!
A little slaute, for you guys on the home front:
Well Done, Guys!
Welcome to Free Republic.
BlueOneGolf, I am in northern KY and I sincerely thank you
for all that you have done. I certainly would like to be
allowed to join you in future protest warrior actions.

They shall be freeping around, check their wedsite @ top of post.
Nicely done! Bump.
Excellent job!
I wish I could have been there. I had to work a party Saturday and could not make it.
But we got awesome press on this. I heard your statement on the radio no less than three times. The TV news reported on the counter-protest as well.
The aging hippies at LPAC are now completely aware that everything they do will be answered. No longer can they steal the media's attention exclusively. From now on the story will always be how people come out to protest them!!!
I love it.
Well done BOG! One of the greatest times in my life is when I took my wife to her first airshow. We were on the flightline and when the F-16 started it's 9G run, contrails pulling off the wingtips, the deafening sound of the engine in full afterburner and close enough to see the pilot, she literally had tears in her eyes. She finally understood where my enthusiasm came from....
On ProtestWarrior.com it doesn't look like there's a PW Chapter in Northern KY but I usually try to post our missions on the KY State Board here on FR. If you regularly stop by there you can stay updated that way.
Hahaha. That's has to be a classic. May the cretins never forget their shameless actions.
First, thank you for the great things you and your unit will do in Iraq on our behalf for the cause of Freedom. I'm glad your troops got a kick out of what we did on Saturday because we did it for your guys and the rest of the men and women of the Armed Forces. Godspeed on your mission and we wish you all the best.
Hey, as a Louisville resident, who enjoys Thunder every year, it's a great thing to see this kind of home front support.
Some of our guys down here pull River Guard duty on the barges. They get up close and personal to some of the ordnance.
I'll be on this hunting trip, so Here's to seeing everybody for Thunder '07!
Keep up the good work!
Excellent FREEP and killer (oops!) pics. Can't wait to make one of those with you all!
Yours truly defending FReedom. The sign needs no comment.
Most excellent job Wish I could have been there ;-(
