Sex Offender Kills Self Over Neighborhood Signs

OCALA, Fla. — A convicted sex offender apparently committed suicide in despair over signs posted in his neighborhood calling him a child rapist.

Clovis Claxton (search), 38, was found dead by his father with one of the signs beside his body. It was less than a day after his release from a psychiatric hospital.

His mother blames Marion County (search) Commissioner Randy Harris (search) for her son's death. Harris proposed putting up flyers in the neighborhoods of sex offenders to alert neighbors.

Wonder what his victims felt, thats assuming most sexual predators don't get caught or reported after their first offense.

I just like to make sure I know the whole story. Mountaneer filled me in. It's unfortunate that the guy had a brain injury and all, but I'm afraid I agree with putting the signs up, in this case.

You just hear about these 19 year olds getting hit with a sex offender tag when they're messing around with a 15 year old that's more developed than I am (or ever will be, I guess at this point. Heh!) They have to live with that the rest of their lives.

Why are you worried about all those details? Just tie them to a stake and set them ablaze. Or better yet maybe there ought to be gas chambers. Don't know what he did? Trust your local Judiciary to tell you what he did.

Oh thats right there are lots of people in jail that probably shouldn't be there. So what'd he do anyway? Did he have sex with a 17 yr old?

That's always been my reply to claims that "They're born that way." Even if people are born as sexual deviants (a big "IF"), that doesn't make sexual deviancy acceptable. If sexual deviants are hard wired to molest kids, they need to be institutionalized one way or another, to protect the public. This may be tragic for pedophiles who want to change, but no worse than institutionalizing other mentally ill people who pose a risk to others.

Homosexuals don't want to compare themselves to pedophiles because we haven't come to tolerate pedophilia- yet.

My only take on it is that there shouldn't be any signs because we (that's right, ~we~) shouldn't let him back on the street if he's still dangerous. I completely agree with involunary civil committment in these sorts of cases.

Why people ~allow~ him back out, but still think yard signs will do anything but cause chaos... escapes me.
