OCALA, Fla. A convicted sex offender apparently committed suicide in despair over signs posted in his neighborhood calling him a child rapist.
Clovis Claxton (search), 38, was found dead by his father with one of the signs beside his body. It was less than a day after his release from a psychiatric hospital.
His mother blames Marion County (search) Commissioner Randy Harris (search) for her son's death. Harris proposed putting up flyers in the neighborhoods of sex offenders to alert neighbors.

If they had those signs in Homasassa maybe that 9 year girl wouldn't have been brutalized.

Looks like someone at AP has a soft spot for sex offenders. No mention of the perp's victims. It looks like he wasn't beyond feeling shame.

Are you kidding me?? So he had just got out of the hospital. He killed himself before he could commit again. I say thanks for sparing us court costs and unrealistic, "biased" media coverage. (Oh and I am sorry for his familys loss)
To: cjshapi
Maybe his fellow preverts will follow his example.

Why the hell was he out of prison?
To: halieus
He won't commit another crime.
To: halieus
Interesting the method of death was not mentioned.

Of all violent crimes, the recidivism rate for child molesters is the highest. I am sorry that this person took his life, but protecting the children in the community is more important than his privacy.

She should be blaming 1) her son, and 2) whoever allowed him to be released from the psych hospital. There's far to much evidence that these people NEVER get well, to be letting them out into society again.
To: halieus
Maybe he killed himself because he couldn't live with what he had done. But of course we have to find someone else to blame.

To bad it didn't happen before he committed his first offense.
