A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

The only shopping I truly hate to do is for shoes. I wear 5.5's in joggers, 5's in sandals and in some dress shoes a 6. The 5's are hard to find, especially in a flat ADULT shoe! Because there is no consistancy in sizes from brand to bran you literaly have to try them on so you can't order online.
I've heard plenty of excuses as to why my size isn't carried too. They go to the border states...last time I looked we are being invaded by those south of the border. They no longer make that size is perhaps the best one I've heard.

They no longer make that size is perhaps the best one I've heard. LOL! That's a good one. But it seems to me that my size is hard to find too, especially on sale. Half the population wear my size. Invariably, I will come across a really good sale and all they will have left is 5's and 10's, LOL.

His plan is to reward the good teachers and get rid of the bad ones. Sounds like a good plan to me. But, heaven forbid a bad teacher should ever be fired. Sounds like the same problems are universal since we have introduced testing of children and made results of each school available there has been so much opposition from the National Union of Teachers. One is amazed because surely no good teacher has anything to fear they will get rewarded with pay/promotion and the bad teachers will be either released or if the school has problems recruiting and has to keep them at least they will not be rewarded for bad teaching.

Yes, it is a most frustrating problem and apparently not just
our problem. California schools are a dismal failure and EVERYONE wants them fixed.....until someone actually identifies the real problems and tries to fix them. The conservatives want the waste stopped and the dead wood weeded out, the liberals want more money dumped into the system.
I think that our Governor may have been a bit naive thinking he could take on the teacher's union, but I have faith in him. He truly is trying to straighten out the mess that the liberals have created in this state.

BTW, I see that I forgot to repair an extra space in the border of the first table. Do you have a problem with extra line breaks in your html when you copy from notepad to the posting window? I have had lots of them that I have to close up. I can't see what is causing the breaks, but I changed my notepad preferences and unchecked "wordwrap". Will see it that solves the problem next time. Well, that's odd since the html text for that is one I set up, and I hadn't noticed the extra space in others you've posted. Strange that you would even 'have' to 'repair an extra space' in the topper. I looked at the source code, and there's a strange command I have never seen before! < /table>TER & g t ;< /center> (only without the spaces - I have no idea what "TER" means - I know the & g t ; is a right bracket, but what TER means I don't have a clue!
My wordwrap is checked. I don't have a problem with extra line breaks when posting from notepad to the posting window. There is something different about our characters per inch though. Remember we've had similar problems before where our line breaks occur - you and I.

I do not know if it is true in the States as well as the UK but certainly unions are much stronger in the public sector than the private. I suppose at the end of the day in the private sector one is answerable to shareholders and the bottom line is profit whereas in the public sector all you try to do is obtain more money from government whether it be local or national.

I remember once I had an enormous desert in TGIF in Kingston (South West London). Can't remember what it was just that it was large LOL
Just watching pictures on Sky News of your new Pope will you have a special mass at your church to celebrate this appointment?

and I hadn't noticed the extra space in others you've posted Could be because I fixed it, but I don't remember. My Arizona post last week (the first one that I formatted in Notepad) was a total mess....line breaks everywhere. They are easy to fix, but time-consuming and it is easy to miss one, like I did in your top table.
< /table>TER & g t ;< /center>
I have no clue where that came from or what it is. This may be one of those mysteries that we can't solve, but I will continue to create my posts in Notepad. I just need to be very careful when I am correcting and closing up the spaces to catch them all.
I sure hope you don't run into this problem with Notepad, Dolly. I would have surely have given up had my first attempt at posting been so completely messed up. At least I have been posting threads long enough to know how to correct the problem. Let's hope that this is a problem peculiar to only MY machine. LOL
