Church discipline from a human standpoint is a difficult task. Too many self-serving impulses are inclined to invade what is otherwise a right and true practice. Difficult or not, it is real. When Jesus breathed on His disciples and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whosoever sins you forgive they are forgiven, and whosoever sins you retain are retained," He was not joking.
Church discipline from a divine standpoint will take place whether we like it or not.

Wow, I just had an image of Katie Curic sitting on the floor holding a lamp switch and turning it on and off.

Who was it who gave Kerry a legal annulment (after he had been married umpteen years and had two daughters)? That's just plain wrong. That priest/bishop/whoever should be expelled.

As a former catholic and now a Protestant committed to reformed doctrine and practice, I ascribe to the idea that the faithful exercise of church discipline is one of the marks of a true church.
I would be most pleased if Pope Benedict actually uses his office to discharge discipline over pro-abortion catholics. No doubt Kennedy, Kerry et al. will be nervously twitching as they await their fate.
BTW, what are the names of the pro-abort catholics in the US Senate and House of Reps?

Why not go for the whole enchilada and excommunicate these politicians?
I am not Catholic, but tip my hat to the new Pope. I'd like to see a more hardline approach, though.
I'd also like to see the other church leaders, like the Baptist practice excommunication.
It's biblical (Matthew 18:15-19), but one must first take the issue directly to the offender, then to two or three witnesses.
