LIVE THREAD: Senate Coverage AND Senate Foreign Relations Committee vote on Bolton nomination
C-span

Posted on 04/19/2005 11:07:48 AM PDT by ken5050

OK..here's what we know..Senate is in recess for the weekly party caucus luncheons. Supposed to resume at 2:15. on C-span 2.. The Foreign Relations committee is supposed to meet at 2:45 to vote on the Bolton nomination. Lugar has refused requests for a delay. Just before the Senate recessed, Reid objected to Frist's UC request for the Froeign Relations committee to meet today. Frist withdrew his request..

What on earth made lugar change his mind??? Why didn't he call for the vote?

He would have lost. This was a strategic "regrouping".

I don't think it's dead yet, but Voinovish's vonduct ws an outrage.

Blaming Mehlman or others is displaced--Voinivich never told anyone what he was doing.

Oh, it's over; they now *know* how to do this to ALL of Bush's nominee.

There only problem, as Pukin and I see it, is that they continually keep raising the bar and, as Pukin said, they're going to have to accuse Scalia of murder.

I'm running late and don't have time to seperate the Pub Senators

But call ... and Tell them Not One Dang Dime to the RNC or the GOP till they stop this BS

Tell them to Find A Way!!!

Though I will NEVER vote for a Dem .. I WILL make sure that my money goes to a candidate that runs against them in the Primary

Lugar doesn't have 10 loyal Senators, but that's not his fault.

I'm not trying to be contentious, but I just don't agree. He had a clear game plan and was sticking to it, but he had not done his homework on all of the committee members, so he got blindsided and was really made to look foolish. Perhaps if he had a little of Eau DeLay in his makeup...At least maybe he will realize that there is no collegiality with his fellow senators. I sure hope he is very angry right now.

PD, to "not give up," you have to have something to work with; the spineless GOP isn't doing their share.

What we all witnessed in that hearing today is the MAIN reason why otherwise conservative people stay home rather than vote.

I am NOT one of those because I refuse to give up, however, there is a reason OTHER than apathy why over 40 percent of the population DO NOT VOTE.

IMHO the absolute feckless leadership skills of MOST of the GOP is one such reason.

I think the RNC is showing record receipts because of their telemarketing. I am getting a call a week asking for money. Sending money does not seem to help as prior to my last donation in February I was only getting one call a month.

I told them last night that if they call again I am giving my money to the Dems (don't flame me as I have no intention of doing that).
