I'm not trying to be contentious, but I just don't agree. He had a clear game plan and was sticking to it, but he had not done his homework on all of the committee members, so he got blindsided and was really made to look foolish. Perhaps if he had a little of Eau DeLay in his makeup...At least maybe he will realize that there is no collegiality with his fellow senators. I sure hope he is very angry right now.
Voinivich just humiliated Lugar. If I were him, I'd be looking for payback. But it's Lugar so who knows how he'll take this defeat.
Right now my only desire is to kick Voinivich's butt and vote these McCain-ites out of office for good. make them pay the way the GOP should be making them pay by yanking their funding.
I agree with you. The most obvious problem was Voinovich, but Lugar should have been aware of what was going to happen going into the meeting. Unless the two have personal problems, somebody who was supposed to count noses didn't. Lugar got blindsided and came out looking like a fool.
At the same time I am not about to throw in the towel on this one as some seem to be. Even two years ago Bolton would not have even been a serious consideration for UN Ambassador. We are winning the war and tossing down your arms when you lose a battle is not the way to keep doing that.
I'll meet you halfway -- If Lugar didn't ask Voinovich if he was OK with going forward, then he deserved to get humiliated. If Voinovich changed his mind during the hearing, then it's all on him. OK??
Either way, we looked BAD today. When you let the likes of Joe Biden and John Kerry and Box-O-Rox successfully pull a Jedi Mind Trick on you -- that's humiliating.
